St Marys C Of E School

Started there in about 1939. Until into the middle 40s then went to Orleans school. Do remember the one class room that had a reinforced.ceiling which served as a shelter during the bombing Only missed a half day at school during the war.,when a bomb dropped in King street, we also had one that dropped at the bottom of Albert Road and destroyed about 10 houses, I lived in Grove Avenue no 2 on the corner of Lion Road and had a manhole cover blown onto our roof. And all the glass from the windows were blown out we were safe in our shelter in the garden

Always been a fabulous school. My 3 kids adore it - the teachers care and the facilities are wonderful.
