St Paul's C of E Primary School

I don’t know this school but when I was 14 I learnt how black people in 60s US deep south couldn’t attend their local school because of the colour of their skin and I remember thinking thank goodness that doesn’t happen here. Now I have a child of my own and it turns out they can’t attend our local school, not because of the colour of their skin but because we are not the correct religion. How can this situation exist in the UK in 2017?
