Quiet, clean and very helpful and professional staff. A surprising lack of books for a Library, though the staff went above and beyond to try and locate the ones I needed from other branches.

People allow their children to make loads of noise like it is a playground. They do not have a problem with letting their kids run around making noise like it is a Toy R Us. Annoying teenagers who are looking for a place to hang out and talk loudly who don't actually need to do any work. I don't understand why the local park isn't an option for them. Staff do absolutely nothing to keep the library quiet when there are obvious noise disturbances.

Wonderful place to spend a few hours in peace. The kids section is quite a pleasant place with a good selection of books and a cosy sitting

I tried to use this place as "working from home" location for 3 weeks, and it was a miserable experience. Hounslow library is a horrible place to stay for any length of time, and much of that is the fault of the staff.

There are so many issues the staff do nothing about. Mothers come and allow their children to run about screaming. School kids come in large groups, and just chat around tables like it's a social club. Sockets and USB plugs are broken, and they aren't even labelled to say so. Even as a library, every section has a poor curation of books, you are even wasting your time just going there to find what you need. I wonder if half the items are even borrowed or read at all.

The staff also operate in an unfair way. A worker called Julian, reprimanded me for eating a roll (which would have taken 2 minutes to consume). There are no signs anywhere that say you can't do this. He even told me to go downstairs and eat (something not allowed as that area is for staff). When I put the roll away, he spent the next 15 minutes staring at me from his desk. Why are staff allowed to intimidate visitors in this manner? There is an area where they give out coffee, so logically, that is going to make people think they can have a snack. I have even seen kids eating McDonalds and take way food, and the staff have never said anything before.

So, I do not understand why I was picked upon. If eating is not allowed, it should clearly be stated with a sign. Otherwise, such a rule is based on staff discretion, which means that staff can happily get away with openly discriminating against visitors. This should not be allowed in a council run facility. I tried to complain, but the manager (Katie) had no interest in seeing me. Instead, I received passive aggressive threats that I should go speak to security. This is absurd. Security staff are not there to hear complaints, they are there to tackle security threats, which I clearly was not. I would also add on weekends, the staff do nothing about the noise from security when they spend all day chatting about football. I witnessed an old lady try to complain to them, and they completely ignored her.

Overall, it is a horrible place, poorly managed, with staff that have a zero regard for the people that visit it.

Honestly, I am appalled on the way staff treat me there! A worker who I believe is called Julian has given me many nasty looks and has tried to kick me out of the library for having a type of computer he “didn’t approve of”. He also publicly embarrassed me by shouting and yelling saying I wasn’t meeting his expectations and the colour of my clothing were too bright. I calmly asked for his name to report this and he refused until one of my friends told him it’s against the law to not give your name for a report. I am NEVER going back!
