My issue was not so much with Easilett in general but with Pauline specifically who was the agent that we dealt with most. Pauline was incredibly rude and unreasonable during our time in that house. We were very good tenants, always paid on time and looked after the property very well, even offered to pay half for the front door to be replaced. However, Pauline treated us very poorly and even shouted at me down the phone on one occasion. Most letting agents will give you a reasonable amount of notice before an inspection and although the contract says they will give 24hours, in my years of renting I have never experienced an agent trying to enforce that, with the exception of Pauline. On every contact with Pauline she would threaten to use the master key to gain access to my home when best suited them instead of arranging a time that suited us both. Please bear in mind that I am a nurse and therefore worked a lot of shift work and mostly worked nights at that time. On one occasion I was told that the landlords wanted to come and see the property the following day to look at the new shower screen that had been installed. I informed her that we were going on holiday for a couple of days but gave her 5 out of the 7 days that week which they could visit. Pauline became very irate and aggressive over the phone telling me it wasn’t my house and the landlords can come and see the house whenever they want without my permission and they will use the master key. I had to cancel my trip away because I was so intimidated and am not comfortable with anyone entering my house without me there, especially as I have a dog. After seeking advice from citizens advice I realised that Pauline obviously didn’t realise that regardless of what the contract says it is not legal to enter the property without the permission of the tenant and can be treated as trespassing. Pauline continued to be very rude and threatening in every contact I had with her until the time that we left the property.
I can understand that some of the issue may have been that the landlords were giving her a hard time however she made us feel very uncomfortable in our own home for years and seemed to completely miss the fact that although we didn’t own the property, it was still ours for the time we were paying the rent and that we did in fact have rights and should have been treated with respect. We are very reasonable people and never would have refused access to the property but people have busy lives and a little bit of flexibility and some decent customer service would go a long way.
I would never rent with Easilett again.
Response to your comment Pauline -
Regarding the reference, some agents require a reference from a previous letting within a certain amount of time so I did not feel comfortable leaving a. Review then however as I did let you know at the time I was very upset by how I was treated by yourself.
I was told I could have the machine at the beginning of my tennancy however told that i would have to make any repairs or replace if broken. I assumed naturally that I would own the washing machine as why in the world would I repair or replace someone else’s washing machine I would have just bought my own so that was the cherry on the cake of an awful tenancy to find out id been accused of stealing it and they then decided they didn’t want it anyway.
I didn’t move my boyfriend ( now husband) in but we were in a serious relationship and therefore he stayed round a lot and moved in with the landlords permission soon after. And I found that accusation an invasion of my privacy quite frankly. It was my Home and I had every right to have my partner sleep over as often as I chose to. I paid £100 to have my dog there and had the carpets professionaly cleaned so that was no favour. I’ve said all I need to.
When we recieved a negative response (within 3 working days) I asked the lady why and she said
1:*the other applicants had been considered because they earned more*
2:*The landlord wants people who want to rent for longer*
I thought there weren't any other applicants??
We ticked the 2+ years and the longer boxes on the app.
Bit rude considering me and my partner earned at least double the rent individually and the house was on birchwood! Hardly kensington is it??
Glad I didnt forge my partners signature even though I was advised to.
Was not charged any fees as suspect our applications wherent even looked at, just a hunch considering all the conflicting things they told us!
Bit dodgy.
They dont care about the tenants, money minded and always think they are right. They are infact not.
