Black Cactus Studio | Recording & Rehearsals | Colchester

While I haven't been to Black Cactus as a musician (yet), I've been over to work on live streamed video, working alongside AJ, so I have a pretty decent feel for the studios. AJ has put a lot of effort into the acoustics of the rooms - the downstairs room in particular has a great sound for drums and the room on the middle floor sounds great with a band in it. They're well decorated too - we've filmed in the middle room and there's nothing to distract in the background. The internet connection in the place has no issue running a live stream at 1080p60 and AJ is good at resolving technical issues to get everything up and running.

There's also ample parking outside and it doesn't really have any neighbours which is a nice feeling when using a studio.

The studios are amazing for rehearsing in and equipped with everything you'd need at a great price. AJ is a legend and extremely talented - goes above and beyond for all of his clients. Very highly recommended for anyone looking to rehearse/write/record/produce!!

We (Ecto Peach) love Black Cactus Studios. It's like a home from home for us, as AJ is so welcoming and helpful. We rehearse there and have also had some amazing results recording there.
He knows his stuff when it comes to tracking and he is amazingly skilled (and patient) when it comes to the mixing process. He is willing to go that extra mile to make sure you come away with the product/art that _you_ want.
He makes it a joy and pleasure.

I use Black Cactus studios regularly with young people for Noise Solution music sessions. Really enjoy it here. Great set up and equipment. AJ is super helpful and passionate about what he does. Highly recommended.

The guys at black cactus are friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable, super helpful, and go above and beyond to support artists. The facilities are great and if you are just starting out or inexperienced like we were, this is the place to go to really give you all the support and tools you need to get started, highly recommended.

Had a fantastic session with a client who enjoys singing. AJ made her feel really relaxed and comfortable. Will be booking more in soon.

Had a brilliant recording session with AJ last week. It was my first proper recording session so was feeling a bit nervous but AJ was so kind and friendly and my nerves disappeared straight away! We recorded one of my own songs and I am so so happy with the result, AJ did such a brilliant job! 🌟

He really cares about his work and clients and put so much time and effort to make sure I was 100% happy with my song. Lots of attention to detail. A really genuine, kind person who is very skilled at what he does. Was very happy to answer all our questions (my brother came with me too). Was willing to try all our suggestions and was really patient with us newbies! 😂

The studio set up was really nice and felt welcoming too. Really cool, creative space with the engineering room and a separate room for recording vocals/ guitar etc.

AJ made the recording process so much fun and I am really excited to book in some more sessions in the new year and get to work on some new songs!

Went to Black Cactus to record and mix my bands first single after being recommended by other musicians who have worked with AJ. Very friendly guy who really knows his stuff with mixing and recording. The studio is really nice with great equipment and we are extremely happy with the final mix. If anyone I knew needed to record a song AJ would be the person I recommend 100%
