Ignore any bad review of this spot - Max is a king, gives you crazy value for money. BEST studio experience I've had in London. Max is a very talented engineer who puts so much care and attention into your music. Equipment is on point, beautiful selection of outboard gear as well as big array of mics and instruments. DON'T THINK TWICE before booking at Start Small - I'll be back again very soon.

Such a nice space. Daylight and fresh air in a london studio! Didn't think that was a thing. No noisy bands next door either also an underrated massive bonus. Gear all sounds great too. The guys are chill, and a nice creative community there.

I have recently used Start Small Studios for a three hour drum
session. From the moment I contacted studio owner Max, I had great and easy communication. On arriving at the studio everything was set up and ready to go. The equipment was great and Max knew his way around just fine to enable the session to be quick, easy and very enjoyable. It was on one of the hottest days of the year but the temperature remained just fine, and that was with five of us in the room!
I have been a professional musician for around 30 years writing, playing and working in many studios. Start Small is obviously not Air but neither is it intending to be, it is completely what it says on the tin, a friendly, relaxed atmosphere, great equipped, well engineered studio at incredibly good value. I would have no hesitation in using it again, in fact I would look forward to it!!
The troll reviews on this site are a load of rubbish and this is from someone who had never met Max before!
Lunch next door at the Vietmanese Cafe was also brilliant!

This was the studio where I started recording my first ever tracks and it couldn’t have been more perfect! The space is really well kitted out and provides such a great space for creativity. Max also creates such a welcoming atmosphere that it felt so easy to be there and he was incredibly helpful too! Not to mention there’s a few great places to eat nearby. Overall I could not recommend this place enough!!

Had an absolutely seamless drum session here and I couldn't recommend it more. Max is friendly, professional, and knows his studio inside out. The recordings themselves came out great and I couldn't recommend this place (& Max) more its sound, ease of use and general great vibes!

Start Small is a homey environment with great equipment and instruments. I recorded on the upright piano and got some beautiful and clear tracks down. Max is a helpful and encouraging engineer with an obvious, strong understanding of sound and recording. Will be coming back!

Recorded 4 tracks here with a band and not only was Max friendly, adaptable, professional and efficient. It was one of the best sounding vocal recordings I have ever had with someone who knows exactly how to get the best out of each individual and equipment. The studio is warm, light and full of wonderful energy that is only a reflection of the person who runs it. If you want a personal and dedicated experience in a cozy, clean and welcoming studio look no further. For reference tracks from that session released: Forever and Better Man are available to be streamed.

Had my first experience in a recording studio here. Max made it enjoyable all the way, a very lovely atmosphere and high quality would definitely recommend :)
