Rich Watson (Session: Beth Ditto, Becky Hill, The Wandering Hearts)
In our case, he recorded our band – the majority of whom had never recorded before – in a live studio setting. Immediately putting them at ease, Henrik struck precisely the right balance between knowing when to push for a better take and when our own ability had been maximised. In an unarguably productive eight-hour session we recorded the base tracks for 13 songs, thanks in no small part to Henrik's organisation, diligence and good humour.
So that's the recording side. A couple of months later, having augmented the base tracks with dozens of home-recorded vocals and other instrumental toppings, we took the stems back to Henrik for a mixing session. It's difficult to quantify a qualitative experience, but to say the songs improved fivefold would be to undersell him. Upon first (remotely) hearing Henrik's mixes, one of the band members simply responded with an open-mouthed emoji. That sums it up.
I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Henrik as a recording engineer or as a mixer. I only hope he doesn't get so busy that he hasn't got time for our next album, which I haven't yet mentioned to him...
Sets everything up fantastically, steers with a very light touch, and has an enviable ability and attention to detail.
