We were walking into Knott End and thought we'd support a local cafe, rather than getting a drink from the Spar or Coop there.
We walked in at 3.45pm to be met with
"we're not doing food now!!"
Not, Hello, or Hi how are you? No pleasantries, just a terse instruction that despite going in 15 minutes before closing they were not serving any food.
After that was instructed we said we only wanted a drink anyway, given half a chance we would have told her that before her "no meals" performance.
'Well we close at 4pm so do you think you will finish them by 4?"
"Yes" I replied, "we are sitting outside".

Good grief, I have never had such an ordeal ordering a coffee. What's the point in people supporting local businesses if the staff are going to be so terse and also we, as customers. do not know the cut off times for food. I can understand 15 minutes is cutting it, but for a drink it's ridiculous. Why don't you close at 3pm and stop doing drinks at 1? I don't think I have ever been made to feel so unwelcome.
I ordered the drinks and she suggested we had them in take-away cups as we could then vacate the seat outside at 4pm sharp.I think they start eviction proceedings at 4.01pm.
I offered to pay,
"No, please pay when I bring your drinks out", the drinks arrived and she said
"how are you paying",
"by card" I said,
"oh, you'll have to pay inside to do that" which is exactly what I offered to do 10 minutes before to save coming in and out and so we could sit down given we'd walked all the way from Pilling.

We paid, took our cups and went. She wasn't rude, just very awkward. To be instantly met with "we're not serving food now" and then such a fuss asking if we could quickly finish our drinks. Geeeez. Then having sat outside asking me to come in and pay, which I offered to do when we placed the order, well....never again. It was like Fawlty Towers.
Next time I will go to Spar and get a Costa. Customer service in the UK is shocking. What is the point opening until 4 to be told 15 mins before it was problematic for them.
Never again.

Nice place. Reasonable and good quality. Didn't eat so cannot justify 5 stars, but food looked good.
Okay so now I have eaten will change to 5 stars.Had the breakfast. Need to grill the bacon in future and use whole mushrooms.

Delicious omelette.

Made a return visit today and although they were getting ready for a private function they were still happy to serve us cake and coffee before closing the doors

The chocolate eclair was delicious and just hit the spot

Brilliant service.

Best cafe I've been in for a while.
As we walked through the door we were welcomed by a nice little lady behind the counter. I said can we have two of your home made Pies, chips & gravy.
It was absolutely spot on. As a chef myself I couldn't have beat the meal for quality price & service.
When Arriving at Knotts End hungry head straight to Dawns tea room & bakery.
You won't be disappointed.
It's very rare you get homemade chips these days and good roast beef gravy but this place has nailed it.
We sat right next to the cake counter so bought four nice cakes to takeaway. The whole visit cost £15 now that's a price you won't beat.

This is a lovely village shop. I eaten in a few times and found the food excellent. The service is really fast and friendly and the tea rooms itself are clean and nicely decorated with locally themed art and photos. I had a mint matchstix cheesecake there once....to this day I have never tasted a cheesecake so good. Dawns Tea Rooms is a real gem for the village and well worth a visit.
