My first roast dinner at a restaurant and honestly incredible! Loved my nut roast - best I have ever had! I need the recipe! Desserts looked incredible, I was too stuffed to try any but they looked amazing. Lovely staff and atmosphere. Considering the portion size (which you have control over!) It is so worth the money! Just wish there was brocolli!

Staying at a local campsite we decided we’d pop out for a little lunch and found this place. We were quickly found a table, drinks and food order was taken and served pretty fast. Myself the wife and kids went for the carvery and wow no one was disappointed, proper cooked tasty food and very reasonably priced. Would like to mention the guy who serves the meat we was all met with a smile and nothing was to much trouble for him, just like the service from the girls too keep up the good work, if we are ever in the area again we will be popping in.

I guess a Friday afternoon after the main lunch service isn't the optimum time to visit somewhere. Staff were friendly and the food came quickly. Food was OK but nothing to write home about. Fryers weren't working so certain things were off the menu. Weirdly chips were doable. My ploughman's wasn't awful but I've definitely had better elsewhere for similar money. Lots of pickle and onions not a vast amount of ham and cheese. The roll was nice. No butter but I got some when I asked. Only as I finished did I realise the apple was missing. It was a shame that when we asked for some cucumber, carrot sticks, broccoli or something healthy for our son they couldn't help. Most places try and rustle something up. He was quite happy with his cheesy chips.

Oh also we chose partly because the photos showed a play area but it is actually closed so nothing to do for the kids.

Ate here a couple of years ago and it wasn't a good experience, I decided to give them another go given recent reviews and unfortunately I was let down again. Went in for 5pm, and got sat pretty much straight away with some drinks, but for the carvery, we must of had the left overs from the lunch sitting as all of the vegetables were so dry and tasteless. The meat was nice but you only got beef gravy and none of us had beef so it was a strong overriding taste. Some of the pork crackling was nice, but some was like leather. Probably the quickest in and out of any restaurant or diner I've ever had.

The floor staff were very attentive, carvery was OK but we did arrive a little late so I would hope the carvery is better the earlier you go. One thing I didn't like was the Chef sharpening his knife over the beef joint. We all know when a knife is sharpened, little fillings come off.

We came here last minute having gone somewhere else and it was closed. The Merry Monk were able to accommodate us a table despite not having made a reservation. The food was delicious, we waited to be told when we could go up to the carvery. The man serving the meat wasn’t very ‘merry’ and appeared to clearly not like his job. That being said it didn’t affect the tastiness of the food and the young waitresses were all very pleasant, at tentative and friendly. I would recommend here for food, friendliness and the salted caramel brownie!

Thoroughly enjoyed my meal, the Monk Style Chicken. Good menu and also a carvery everyday. Prices are reasonable and the service was good. Overall a very good nigh out topped of with a good couple of pints of beer.

Food is great, they do a lovely carvery.
Reasonable prices.
Small play equipment in the garden.
Plenty of parking.
I would definitely recommend booking as this place is very popular especially at the weekends.
