The Gordon Arms has changed hands recently and is no longer a bar and restaurant, it's now a restaurant and room establishment. However, if there is space available in the bar area you can get a drink only. They don't appear to have a wide selection of drinks, when we visited they had no lemonade and only 1 choice of alcohol free beer. They do have a bar menu which we thought was reasonable priced, until we saw the portion sizes. Very small. The restaurant has a minimum spend of £22 per person, so not great for pensioners or families. The atmosphere was nonexistent, no back ground music and service was slow, only 2 staff working on a Saturday night. The seating area outside has been removed from the front and the beer garden is no more. This means that bikers, cyclist, walkers and local residents are not welcome to drop by, which is a great shame as it was a lovely local drinking place. Whilst I'm disappointed to lose the local pub, I do wish the new owners every success with their new endeavour.

Myself and my husband visited the Gordon Arms for an evening meal on Saturday 11/6. We were warmly welcomed and the service the whole evening was great. Our food was delicious, really enjoyed the potted shrimp and the venison salami. The local venison burger was very good, so moist, well seasoned and great chips. It was a lovely treat.

A delightful restaurant, with comfortable rooms and bar, in a historic coaching inn in the Scottish borders. Fantastic food: with an interesting variety of dishes, including a mouth-watering pork dish, and local, seasonal vegetables cooked to perfection (a highlight being the courgette flowers in tempura with honey sauce!). Charming service. Worth travelling many miles for - and stay for their delicious breakfast: which illustrates the difference between a chef and a cook!

New owners. Staff were polite and very helpful. New decor is lovely. I really enjoyed the gazpacho starter and the steak main. Chips were amazing

We've been visiting the Gordon Arms for over 30 years in its many guises. We visited it this August expecting it to be the same bar/restaurant it was over the last couple of years since it had been done up. It was such a lovely surprise to see that it is under new management (no offense intended at all to the previous owners). Everything is done to such a high standard...from the high quality printed menus which change every week, the linen napkins and the subtle inoffensive background music. Our food was superb and all cooked to order. Another reviewer mentioned service was slow...it was no problem to wait for food cooked freshly and superbly. The Chef found time to come and chat with us after our meal. I wish the new owners all the success in the world as they bloody well deserve it after the effort they have put in.

Without question the most inhospitable public house I've ever visited. A friend and I arrived at opening time on Sunday to be told, before we'd even crossed the threshold, not to waste our time as they were fully booked. Fair enough I thought. We don't want lunch, could we just pop in for a quick drink I asked. No, we're fully booked at the bar too was the answer, which leads to the conclusion you have to make a reservation for a half of coke and a bag of crisps???? Bear in mind at this point we were still the only two people there, with no sign of anyone turning up. Maybe the pub filling crowd who were booked in for 12pm opening had missed the bus? Utter tosh, try the Tushielaw Inn for a friendly, completely normal experience.
