My parents got them to reroof their bungalow this year. To start with they took a lot of chasing to get any information out of them. My parents were promised that they would see samples of roof tiles soon after signing the contract but until I put a lot of pressure on them months down the line none appeared...then started the saga of their work. We pushed for some information around when they might start the work and were then promised the scaffolding would be put up and work would start very soon but the scaffolding appeared in dribs and drabs over weeks with one occasion only a dozen poles were dropped off and left. We kept being promised that the scaffolding would be finished and they told us it was all the scaffolding companies fault (we spoke to the scaffolding owner after all the mess and turns out he was asked to stall for as long as he could). They eventually started work on one of the hottest weeks of the year with a single worker stripping the roof by himself. Some help was provided the next day but the two additional men did not seem to take any care over the job, just healing over old nails rather than removing them properly, dropping nails and concrete into the loft insulation and the area surrounding the bungalow. When the new felt was laid on the roof many small holes were made by these nails leaving it not water tight. By Thursday my father was really worried with the work being completed and that work that had been requested in the contract was not being done so I went into the offices to complain in person. The directors came out to the site on the Friday and promised that they would fix the issues, the property would be left water tight that night (storms were forecast) and the work that should have been done (treating rotten wood) would be done. The loft beams were sprayed but only from the inside that day meaning that the bottoms of the beams and some outer beams were not treated. The roof was certainly not left water tight. My elderly father ended up having to climb around in the loft, late at night to try and prevent water damage due to the amount of water coming in through the felt. Unsurprisingly I was fuming the next morning when I visited and saw what they had done. We had a director and a workman out to make the property watertight which they did by covering PART of the roof with a second layer of felt. We requested that they did not return until we'd received legal advice. On the Monday more water came into the house. When we approached the director he claimed that this would have not happened if we had let them return on the Sunday to fix the issues....missing the point that to fix all the problems would have meant completely stripping the roof again, respraying all the beams, relaying the felt and securing; not something that they could have done when it rained ALL of Sunday.
After a few weeks and Trading Standards getting involved we managed to get the deposit back minus the roofing tiles that my parents were still able to use.
When the work was being rectified a list of faults were found including:
- Tiles not lapped correctly leaving some with not enough overlap and the very top tile with far too much
- Not the same spacing of tiles between the front and the back of the property (property is symmetrical)
- No overlap at either and of the property where their should have been one
- One beam was so rotten at its base it could be sucked up by a hoover. This should have been raised and repaired but was just felted over
To top off all of this story I found out that my parents had signed to pay a whopping £12,000 to have their roof renewed. That is over DOUBLE what it actually cost in the end when we got another roofer to do the work, which included 2 man days worth of clearing up all the mess they left on site (hundreds of nails, concrete lumps, old roofing felt etc from all around bungalow, soffit and loft), and an emergency call out to have the roof made water tight while we sorted out the mess.
They have since hounded me for weeks for a follow up appointment and to set up a trade account with them because we brought them "a lot of business".
I accidentally missed an appointment and am anxious on the phone as it is, but when I finally answered the phone to them the sales rep berated me for not answering and then tried to hard-sell me a conservatory. I explained we'd changed our mind and did not want a conservatory, we would be looking for something else.
She berated me about not getting a quote with them and instead going for a company we've "never used" (we have used them on multiple occasions and they are wonderful).
When I calmly asked to just make this follow up appointment and we did not want the trade account, she wouldn't drop it and kept asking why we wouldn't want such a good deal. I finally got a bit snippy, asking just for the appointment and let's leave it at that - she told me she'd get the manager to call me and hung up.
Thoroughly unimpressed, absolutely do not recommend. Have even changed my name to leave this review as I'm worried about potential backlash, although I'm sure they know who I am anyway.
We will be hiring an independent contractor to review the work they've actually done as I'm now worried that their workmanship may be as bad as their sales team.
The products sound good, they use different company for the products. The company pressure wash the roof, been informed by most people in the business not to pressure wash the roof as it could more problems in the long run.
The pressure selling technique was absolutely outrageous, starting with a price of just under £6000, then quickly reduced to £4000, but i'd have to get in quick as the offer was for 10 houses only, I said 'No thanks ' so it was onto the manager 'oh dear 9 houses have already signed up to the offer' you could miss out the offer would go back upto 6000 if we have to come back!! i still said no thanks, back to the manager, surprise! the offer is now 3200. I got out my chair and headed to the front door. Goodbye!!
Try your local trades persons.
We bought a house which they had replaced the roof on about 5 years ago and foillowing a structural survey completed before we undertook some more works as it is an old house, we were told of the many faults with the roof. When the wet weather came in 2020 both the main roof and the flat roof they installed leaked. The had also done the guttering which was completely inadequte, this has resulted in structural damage to the walls and much of the internal finishes. We invited them out to have a look and despite theirr offer to complete some remedial works declined their offer as it was absolutely apparent they knew very little about roofing or indeed the details of the works they had actually guaranteed. We have accepted that their gurantee is worthlless.
The suveyor advised us to have the roof supported immediately to prevent it falling in and have it re-done as soon as possible which of course we did. Today our new roofer, who I would be delighted to reccomend, found that almost every aspect of the job was dangerously sub-standard. Here is a list of their handiwork, by no means exhaustive but hopefully enough of a warning to all.
Wrong membrane used resulting in a moist loft area which has encouraged woodworm, other insects and the accompanying rodents .
Failure to replace joist which were obviously rotten which caused roof to sag. (First warning sign!)
No ventilation.
Cement used instead of lead flashing on entire roof, they did of course remove the existing lead.
Gutter downpipes run into ground only 1 metre from house and only 2 feet deep soakaway.
Insufficient capacity gutters.
Irregular fall on gutters with an apprent hill in the mioddle which forced an entire roofs worth of waterr down one downpipe into said insufficient soakaway.
I am sure you get the jist by now. This has cost many thousand's to rectify and we have no regrets in ensuring they never darken our door again.
Just for clarification. NEVER, EVER USE THIS COMPANY FOR ANY WORKS, EVEN IF YOU BELEIVE THE TESTIMONY OF 'SATISFIED' CUSTOMERS.
