Didn't stay at the caravan park which looked very nice and tidy, but did pop into the pub whilst on a walk. It's just on the Welsh border between Wrexham and Ellesmere. We had a freindly welcome, good beer and lovely gf chips. The menu looked good with gluten free options and the Sunday roast was very tempting.

Have just spent four nights at the site in our own touring caravan. The site is owned and run by a guy called Gary who virtually single handedly maintains the whole place on his own. It's a beautifully kept site with immaculate toilet and shower facilities. All of the touring plots are fully serviced too. The huge bonus is that there is a pub on site also. We ate at it three nights in succession. The food was perfect and the prices very reasonable, all wrapped up in a beautifully decorated pub with friendly staff. Ideal. We will certainly be back again.

Our first visit to the Trotting Mare Inn and what a surprise. Staying in the Holiday Lets means we only have a short walk to enjoy the fabulous food served at the Inn. A great choice of food. Particularly enjoyed the chilli beef tacos. Thanks again.

We stayed in the ‘Chester’ Accommodation for a three day weekend in June 2022.

The accommodation was excellent quality, and the Welcome Pack was a greatly appreciated treat for our weekend break.

The accommodation was spotlessly clean and all the fixtures and fitting were of a superior standard, and it was a fantastic touch to have crockery to perfectly match the colour of kitchen cupboard doors, such attention to detail.

The two sofa’s were both electric smooth recliners and absolutely super comfortable to sit in.

It was lovely to have such a large shower and gigantic freestanding bath.

One thing that we found a little uncomfortable our first night was the temperature of the bedroom and bathroom area upstairs as this is due to the boiler being in a cupboard in the bathroom.  The windows have safety catches on them and can only open a small way so air flow to cool the rooms down was difficult, but again I will point out we did arrive on the hottest day of the year so far.  I was so hot that first night, I actually had to go downstairs to sleep on the recliner and had the downstairs window open to try get some cooler air flowing.  The owner of the site can not be in control of the weather, but maybe the provision of some fans to use upstairs would be a good suggestion.

Despite being on a main A road, the accommodation was well soundproofed and the traffic noise did not disturb us at all.

It is evidently clear that the owner takes great pride in not only the accommodation but the whole site, the grounds were a delight to walk around, with a few small ponds which you could fish in if required.

With the accommodation being such a high standard we were surprised that dogs were allowed in this property, and there was even doggy items such as bedding for the dogs to use during their stay, a nice touch.

There was a designated dog walking area in the field next to the site, sadly the gate got padlocked during our stay and the only access was over a stile which had a very narrow step the other side so a tad difficult to get over, and the stile also did not have a gap to the side that dogs could get through, so unless you were very agile and you dogs were small enough to be carried in your arms whilst you climbed over in to the field, this was not a viable option to walk the dogs.

As there were cows in the field, this field was not owned by the site so it was not their fault the gate was padlocked shut.  I just mention it so people are aware, it is not a criticism at all of the site itself.  This did not cause too much of an issue for us as we just drove our dog in the car to the parking area beside Ellesmere Lake and walked him there for his comfort breaks.

We would have no hesitation recommending this place to others and would definitely stay here again in the future if we need to be looking for accommodation in this area again.

Hired a static caravan for 4 nights. The caravan was spotlessly clean. Had everything you need for a comfortable stay.
Towels and bed linen all supplied and of good quality.
They even put some fresh flowers in the caravan which made it feel very homely.
The site is small but so peaceful and beautifully kept. Would definitely recommend.

Thank you Paul and staff for making Caz birthday so special. The unprompted birthday cake surprise was very thoughtful and so appreciated. We all had a lovely time and the food was incredible! Lamb shanks were done perfectly! Your team were very friendly and you pulled out all the stops to make Charley an off-menu Knickerbocker Glory!
