You can walk down in front of the dam and across to the other side. There's a path that runs around the reservoir on the opposite side that the road takes however there is a rock fall there which looks like it has been there for a while.

Signs say go back and all the way round along the road but if you are steady on your feet, there's an unofficial route that others have taken which gets you around the rock fall. You do need to be careful though and it's not officially advised

Elan Valley is gorgeous. Very accessible, as walking on flat path that used to be the railway line, despite being amidst the Cambrian Mountains. Worth checking in at the Visitor Centre for history behind the 5 dams, built 'tween 1903 & 1952, to provide water to Birmingham.

We did the whole route, stopping at all the key points. What fabulous scenery and wonderful walks to see the these magnificent dams. Thoroughly recommend a day here

Another amazing place to visit. Another lovely day out. Started off over cloudy and cleared up to a gorgeous sunny day.

Beautiful place! Visit very often! Though it's sad to see it so empty! Though that's only temporary, really beautiful otherwise!

It was nice and quite on our walk, fabulous views of the dam and woodlands and birds. After our walk we went to the visitors centre for coffee and a cake the cakes were delicious we also had a chicken and chorizo pasty. We sat near the window near the bird feeders and we saw lots of different birds.
There is a shop attached to the visitor centre for you to buy birs and bobs.

How amazing is nature. The roar and speed of the water was incredible. The dam is beautiful. Spectacular. There is a space to park for a couple of cars and you can walk down the side of the dam for a better look. It would have been better for us if it hadn't been raining. But it was well worth seeing the dam in the rain.

We visited the Elan valley at the same time that this Dam had an open day and had a great opportunity to take a tour through the inside. If this is an option for you a walk up to either side and the centre bottom as the views are spectacular. It also has the convenience of a small carpark for those not cycling or walking to the Dam.
