Railway Retreats

Absolutely brilliant place to stay, our accommodation has been very thoughtfully transformed from a newspaper van into a 2 bedroom holiday let. We have everything we need plus stunning views over the railway and the countryside. Loved it!

Railway retreats absolutely exceeded all of our expectations.

We stayed in the ammunition wagon for 2 nights. Booking and arrival was easy with a nice parking area for one car directly opposite the wagon.
The wagon was spotlessly clean, well appointed for a short stay for two people and the welcome package was a very nice touch.

The bathroom is very nice, modern and perfectly usable. The shower in particular is worthy of mention as excellent.

The area is quiet, all very well kept and an enjoyable place to spend some time. We had a BBQ on the small outside BBQ and the seating area was really very pleasant in the evening.

Local Indian Restaurant, café and pub all within walking distance and the benefit of being able to see the railway really clearly from both inside the wagon and the outside area.

Thoroughly recommended and we will 100% be returning again soon.

We stayed in Emerald express and was thoroughly impressed, it was exceptionally clean and had everything we needed for our 2 night break, Just a tip if you are going on the train, we booked return tickets on the steam train and drove to tenterden to get the full train ride, however we was told the tickets are a rover ticket and you can hop on and off wherever all day, so we could have took the train right from our accommodation to tenterden then back to Bodiam and then back to the accommodation again.

Amazing place to stay, and we had everything we needed, including oven and hob. The bedroom was so cosy, and we ended up coming back from outings early to spend more time there. Just wish it was in a location with more going on.

We just have stayed in 3 carriages, at Northium. Amazing venue and set up and a phenomenal experience, of which I’ll be definitely doing again.

The railway rolling stock is done up to such great quality, with heating and all the amenities you need.

Great local pubs nearby and things to do and was such a nice stay. All the set up is so professionally done and so finely refurbished.

We really loved these super carriages. Stayed in one for 2 and it was immaculately clean, well equipped and comfortable. Could do with a microwave and Wi-Fi, but perfect otherwise. Very quiet and restful. Loved the view and the bag of goodies greeting us on arrival was a sweet and welcome gesture. Recommend a stay here.

We absolutely loved our time staying at Railway Retreats. The carriage was cosy, warm and comfortable. The location was idyllic, and as we arrived there was an actual steam train at the station a stone's throw from our carriage!
If you love trains (as my wife does) then I highly recommend a stay at Railway Retreats.

Fantastic setting, spotlessly clean and if you haven’t yet stayed in one of the carriages you have missed out ! Great local Indian restaurant, located right next to the vintage railway. Lovely owners and the carriages themselves are brilliant ! My favourite is the old style slam door carriage which sleeps 6, a nice range of different carriages to choose from !
