Lovely family getaway. A gorgeous location and has everything you would need for a relaxing break. Stunning veiws, well put together holiday home. Indoor and outdoor hot tub, gym, sauna, outdoor alfresco eating area with pizza oven and close to shops. Some beautifully walks and not far from adventure surf, zip world and not far from betsy cowed. Friendly helpful staff. Highly recommend. 5 stars.

I’d give our RWST lodges experience a 3.5/5. There are a mix of lodges here. Unfortunately ours (#10 & #11) were very close to the road, so it was noisy. The blinds were thin and let in light, which made it hard to sleep. Our view was just of the car park and other lodges, so we had to keep some of the blinds shut for our privacy. It looked like some lodges had views of an open grassy area, some had views just of other lodges.

Bedroom was fine, comfy enough bed. Window being next to road was a let down. It got quite stuffy because there’s a fire door and we couldn’t open the windows due to the noise. No wardrobe just a rail with a few hangers. No full length mirror or TV in bedroom.

Bathroom was fine, basic shower, no bath, l provided two toilet rolls and towels. However nowhere to put things like your toiletry bag.

In the kitchen there adequate pots but the frying pan was scratched to bits, asked for a new one and it was better. No wine glasses only flutes. No salt and pepper. We’ve been to a few lodges and they usually provide some basics. However they provided adequate cleaning equipment which was good. Bin didn’t shut properly. There was a microwave, toaster, oven/hob, small fridge with little freezer compartment. Comfy sofa, didn’t use the TV. Nice big dining table but we ate all our meals outside.

Quite open out front, no privacy in the patio area. Looked like a big mast of security cameras and I hope they weren’t on us while we were relaxing. The communal bbq looked a bit grungy so we decided not to use it. The gym and hot tub area looked nice. We did use the outdoor hot tub once (around 5pm) and when I took my sunglasses off I realised was dirty. Since it’s communal I’d expect it to be cleaned more often.

Overall I’d say a bit style over substance. We’ve stayed in a lot of lodges in recent years and in comparison this was just fine. Nice modern decoration, clean but I wouldn’t stay here again, at least not in Hawthorne lodge (#10). Shout out to who does their social media because it looks great (got our expectations a bit high if I’m honest). If this was your first lodge experience, or if you were out most of the day and eating out rather than cooking, I think you’d love it.

The view of the forest behind the lodges is gorgeous though. Good location, short drive to the beach and lovely walks. Nice cafes in local area.

Lovely quiet location by the river with plenty of outdoor seating, a gym, sauna and indoor hot tub plus outdoor hot tub. Lodges are very clean and tidy and nicely decorated. Well definitely come again.

I have just come back from spending 3 days (2 nights) at RWST holiday lodges. The weather was hot and the location was just stunning!!

There were some hiccups on arrival, but I’ll still give this place 5 stars. However, I urge the management to improve a few things because this will make it totally perfect! See below:

There is no formal checking-in process, as all lodges have a key safe. Your key safe number is supposed to be emailed to you (with the welcome email) but I never got this. When we arrived, I tried calling the emergency contact numbers but there was no answer. Fortunately, 2 lovely workers called Andy and John were around and they sorted this out. I went through my email with John, just to make sure I wasn’t going mad!

In the lodge, there was a welcome pack which gave you a lot of information, but I really think there should be a small treat too. If guests have chose your establishment for their holidays and they have spent a few hundred pounds on this, it’s not going to kill management to spend a few pounds on some Welsh cakes or something. A small touch goes a long way.

If 4 people are staying in a lodge for 2 nights, there should be 2 toilet rolls in the bathroom, not 1.

LODGE
These were renovated about 18 months ago and they are very modern. With a lodge, you also get some outdoor space where you have a wooden picnic bench.

Reasonably sized car park.

Laundrette on site.

There is no air conditioning but fans are provided and there is a great heating system for the colder months.

There is an outdoor hot tub and indoor hot tub - great way to relax after a busy day. We never booked a slot for this, we just got in whenever it was free. The water is changed every morning.

Infrared sauna - which has a radio system in it. You can’t get more than 4 people in here. (See attached photos).

There is also a gym. There are extra toilets in here which you can use. More towels are available in here/next room.

Shower gel and hand wash are provided in your shower but you might have to bring your own fairy liquid and hand wash for the kitchen.

LOCATION
Just perfect - picturesque!! You open your door or when you look through your window, you see the River Conwy (we had a swim in this), greenery and mountains (I have attached photos).

There is a Spa shop and Londis shop, a chippy, pubs and a Bangladeshi take-away, 10min walk from the lodge.

Betws-Y-Coed (very popular village in Snowdonia) is 4 miles away.
To walk - it’ll take you about an hour & 15mins.
To drive - it’s 10-15mins and you can park in the train station car park for £6 a day (or less for a few hours).
Bus - T19 bus goes from Watling Street (10min walk from the lodge) but this bus service isn’t regular as there are only 4 buses a day. A return, all day ticket is about £5 for adults (family ticket works out cheaper) and you can use this ticket on other buses too.

Betws-Y-Coed has a lovely atmosphere and there are plenty of places to eat here. You can also walk to Pont-y-Pair Bridge (10min walk) and Swallow Falls (40min walk) or you can catch the S1 bus to Swallow Falls from Miners Bridge. Bus comes every hour.

TRAIN RIDE UP SNOWDON MOUNTAIN
Views are breathtaking. You can catch the Sherpa bus (S1) from Betws-Y-Coed train station which takes you to the mountain. Bus leaves every hour and it’s a 40min journey each way.

ZIP WORLD
Activities take place in various sites and there are two sites which we went to. They were very easy to get to. One is a 5min drive on the way to Betws-y-Coed and for the other, we caught the T19 bus (10min walk from lodge) to Blaenau Ffestiniog and the bus drops you off right outside.

STAFF
Andy and John were on site everyday. They are so friendly and did whatever they could to assist you. Nothing was too much trouble as they went that extra mile. This is what you call fantastic customer service and these two are an asset to RWST holiday lodges.

Disappointed - we had no view whatsoever from our Lodge (Lilac Cottage) & there is no "Stunning Mountain Backdrop" as promised!

Had a flood in the kitchen on our first evening as the overflow from the sink was not connected. slight leak from toilet cistern too! There were no kitchen knives, cutlery was very cheap & nasty, no salt & pepper or oil & the jug provided had a hole in bottom. Induction hob could not cope with high setting on more than 1 ring at a time! No side tables or coffee table in lounge area so we had to use dining chairs to put our drinks etc on. Lodge is promoted as suitable for 4 people - it had an armchair & a 2 seater settee, so 4 would be a problem. Also, only lighting in lounge was overhead downlighters, which were far too bright. In the absence of dimmer switch, a side lamp would have been useful. We ended up bringing a lamp through from one of the bedrooms. (Double room had no side table or lamp on one side of the bed). Would definitely benefit from a shelf above the sink in the bathroom & some sort of shelf for toiletries in the shower. Also, would be nice to have a windowsill in the bathroom other than just the painted plaster!

The neighbouring lodge (only about 10 or 12 feet away from the back of ours) had bright outside lights which, along with the very thin blinds in the bedrooms, kept us awake at night!

Positives - lounge seating & beds were reasonably comfortable. In summary, not the Super Comfortable Luxury promised by the website.

We would not go back, despite the 10% discount offered to us by email after our return home.

My family and I travelled to Rwst for a short break recently and were amazed at the picturesque setting. This place is a real gem, absolutely stunning scenery, we were so thrilled to wake up in such a beautiful lodge with fabulous home comforts and decor that inspired my wife to redecorate when we got home!

The staff made us feel really welcome and were very approachable. The location is perfect for days out too. We visited the nearby Betws-Y-Coed and made numerous trips to the famous tea room which was within walking distance. We can't wait to go back!
