"In 2004 I shared a flat with my son and subsequently applied to the advertised vacancy in Day's Almshouses. I was granted an interview with the Trustees and Clerk and was accepted as a resident. I couldn't believe how blessed I was. Having grown up in a country abroad and reading Catherine Cookson books, I was now living in a picturesque cottage right out of a book. I will have been resident 17 years come June 2021 and I am thankful daily for my home. From the days of 'rent books' to the present 'direct debit'. I enjoy my house, the beauty of my surroundings including a walled garden with space for my own gardening endeavours, the River Misbourne at the bottom of the garden and my neighbours who are friends."
