Good holiday tennis sessions for my son aged 12. The courts were recently refurbished. Clinton keeps things well organised.

I present my review of Totteridge Tennis Club in the form of a poem I have written about it:

At the Club

At Totteridge Tennis Club it's my desire
To play awesome tennis that will inspire,
But in reality all I can aspire
Is to lose gracefully whilst I perspire.

My backhand’s derisory
My winners-count miserly
And multiple shots fly into the trees
Yet I’m undismayed by my inexpertise

As although my shot-making's not something to treasure,
Friendly fellow-players make each game a great pleasure.
And with affable bar-staff not far down the road
My club feels akin to a second abode.

I relish the chances I take to sup
such sumptuous dinners as are served up
to the winners and losers many a time,
well-deserving of mention within this rhyme.

I return to my tennis club week after week,
knowing full-well that I may never peak
to reach heights in my dreams I aspire to be:
A rare blend of Becker, Borg and Agassi.

But at least for now I am able to speak
Of the leafy locale for the strong and the weak
That, nestling in parkland off Great Bushey Drive,
Keeps all of our Wimbledon dreams alive!
