I planned with some friends to visit Dover during a Sunday. We heard that there is a castle there, but our main focus were the White Cliffs so we didn't give to much attention before we arrived there. When we actually saw the castle, we started to feel bad because we should have got a train that left earlier. The Castle of Dover is pretty big and really really nice. You can see a lot of interesting things and enjoy some beautiful events. I would recommend going in the morning to the castle (as you would might need 4-5 hours to visit it and then head to the Cliffs). Queue up for the Dunkirk experience first as this can be visited only with the guide and the queue becomes big in the afternoon. Check their schedule in advance and if they organize different events in the castle during your visit day, don't miss the joust, it's a greaaat experience! The food is pretty good at the castle too. I had a pulled pork burger which was more than satisfying. Definitely plan your visit such that you will spend few hours here before heading to the Cliffs!

The best castle I've visited in the United Kingdom. There is an entire day of activities at this site so plan to get there early. Don't miss the underground tunnels and Roman lighthouse. Will definitely come back here to explore in the future.

A wonderful time. We visited the old castle and the medieval tunnels, quite staggering. The visit of wartime tunnels is highly recommend even though you have to wait an hour (literally) in the queue.

The Castle is wonderful and well maintained. There is a lot of people working around the let the magic happens. The are so proud of what they have done. And you can feel it in each story they say. Such a hard work to keep everything together, and it's worth it for the beauty you'll find walking around the big area, and the tours.

Operation Dynamo tour:

The pros: While I am highly interested in this topic, I think anyone would take value from going into the tunnels and learning about Operation Dynamo. There are several extremely well made videos as you go through the tour to explain the time period and the experiences of this operation. (The tour is free with entry into the castle.) This is a MUST SEE!

The cons: Poor signage about this tour and how often it happens. The tour goes every 30 minutes and the last tour was at 4pm during our visit. We asked a bunch of employees standing around about the tour and they were a bit unhelpful. I felt like we had to pull information from them. We were told not to take pictures in the tunnel by our tour guide but it seems this was her policy based on other reviews. I also felt she rushed us through the tour as there were so many pictures and things to see but no chance to read the information.

Recommendation: If you can, go on a Monday. No wait and a small tour group. I want to go back but with another tour guide.....

One of the two guided tours of the underground tunnels at Dover. Gets very busy and often a long queue but worth the wait. Believe the tour was about an hour long.
