Interesting staircase, needed a bit more loving care though. Only open certain times of the year. Not as many steps as we thought.

Excellent free just make a donation in the box, take my dog up went for nice walk up the hills, even bought my father in law some old books on the war 3 for a pound and he loved them , I will go up every time it's open.

We walked up to the top, but it was not clearly marked how to get to it and kind of off the beaten path.
We wanted to look at but it is surrounded by a locked gate and fence, and this is set back a good twenty feet from the shaft itself, so you can't even look through the fence into it at all. Really too bad, as this is an interesting little work of engineering.

Very worth a visit! Make sure it's open when you're visiting though, I think it's only open around once a month.

Found this place by accident and will be returning at some point. Great for exploring with the kids and walking the dog. Parking is however limited
