I've been meaning to visit Symonds Yat for a number of years, but have never got around to it. The main reason I never visited was that I always thought it was just a viewpoint, so the long drive, just for that, put me off. Then when researching it I realised that there were a number of walks in the area, so being a keen walker I planned a route and took a drive to Symonds Yat Rock car park. The price to pay for the day cost £7 and there were toilets on site.

For the walk, we set off from Symonds Yat Rock and then followed the maze of never-ending paths that run through the Forest of Dean. It was a beautiful walk which took us through Maliscot Wood, Highmeadow Woods, and across Biblin's Bridge over the River Wye to Lord's Wood. Then it was a walk along the top of the Seven Sister's Rocks, and finally a descent back down to the Wye. At the end of the walk we had to get the hand pulled ferry ride back across the river which dropped us off in the Saracen's Head Inn. A great end to the day with a nice, cold pint!

If you're planning on walking the area, you will need to take a map.

What a gorgeous view, we really do live in such a beautiful country. The views on such a sunny day are breathtaking, if it were a foggy day, I definitely wouldn't bother!!!

Great view from an incredible height, the vista seems to stretch around almost distorted like a wide-angle photo (even when viewing with the naked eye). There are a number of walks around here from under 2km up to 8km, so worth spending a few hours, currently £5 for 3 hours but there are longer and shorter lengths. Beware of the road up here if coming from the North, it is tight and twisty, although a number of passing points... but drive slowly.

Large number of different length walks as well as a great view from the viewpoint.

Parking onsite is cash as you can't get a mobile signal in the carpar for the mobile app. You can pay for parking on card at the café just a few hundred yards from the carpark.

Cafe has great cake, definitely worth a visit.

Stopped in Coleford for the week (October). Had to visit Symonds Yat. The views are staggering, the walking is fantastic. At the Rock there is plenty of parking and a cafe. Catch the views from view points at the rock of the Wye Valley. Walk down (and up again) is steep but worth the effort. Walk along the River Wye, or up into the surrounding forests to explore. Or hire canoes to enjoy the river. Will be back.

Great views from the rock. Ample car parking, clean toilets and a Caffè. Parking is £5 for 4 hrs.

A number of walking tracks down to the river. Check out Biblings bridge.

Appear to be a few “places” on google. But this is the entrance to the park, parking, toilets.

Decent place for a long walk
Parking is good, but either coins or over the phone/ring go app
Toilets are good
Views are nice. But not worth a special trip

Worth a visit if going for a walk too

What great views! We walked up from the bottom and would advise anyone thinking of doing so to take plenty of fluids and comfortable walking boots. The walk up was a little challenging but we were rewarded with the views.
