We enjoyed are visit, though the Castle wasn't open, (closed Mondays and Tuesdays) thought it would be open during school holidays.. So we walked around the lovely gardens which are kept beautifully. Then decided to do the blue circular walk taking in some lovely views. Unfortunately it started to rain but it was nice all the same. Car park, toilets & cafe are available.

Our second visit (after coming last June). It was great seeing the gardens in a different season. The spring flowers and the narcissus around the stumpery, in particular, were lovely as well as the beautiful cherry blossom tree. The gardens are beautiful here and there are lovely walks. We'll be back in the autumn to see the autumn colours! We even had Charlie, the black cat, following us! 😊

Great National Trust property. We went on a sunny day so were able to see all of the best bits without worrying about rain and mud.

The car park has plenty of space and felt quite secure. There was a large cafe area just off it with a separate ice cream stall (Vegan rum+raisin and vegan strawberry options as well as many traditional ice cream flavours).

The castle is a gem and well worth a wander around, especially the ancient stone spiral staircase. They had beautiful views from the upper floors!

The gardens are beautifully kept and even on a busy day were relaxing for a stroll. There's a large orchard and areas with picnic tables there.

We went on the children's 'wild trail' which they loved - a hunt for clues over various obstacles in the woods (not suitable for buggies or prams though as it's quite uneven in places and muddy/slippy on a wet day).

We spent a whole afternoon there and weren't bored!

Was really impressed how nice this place was. I didn't visit the castle as it didn't open till midday. The gardens were beautiful with loads of variety. They aren't huge but have loads to offer and are really well maintained. I met a wonderful volunteer who was working in the pouring rain and was still really friendly. When I visited there was the start of some spectacular autumn colour.

We have a dog so couldn't go inside or take her in the gardens. Great place for a dog walk though, staff are very helpful, we did a 2 1/2 mile walk up to St Johns church which had magnificent views. Once the dog was tired we had a look around the gardens (there is shaded car parking and it wasn't hot). Nice visitors centre shop and cafe with plenty outdoor seating.

We came here on our last day of our holiday.
In pouring rain it's definitely a place to visit as the paths are accessible and hard standing.
The gardens are beautifully maintained and even the gardeners were working in the weather.
I've posted just a few photos of our visit which will show you how beautiful it is.
The staff were all really friendly and helpful
The castle was great to look around
The gardens are fantastic
5 stars from me and well deserved

The building itself is quite small and you can get around it quite quickly. There are a lot of interesting things to see though.

There are lots of walks that can be done on the wider estate and no doubt on a clear day some wonderful views to be had (unfortunately for us it was both wet and misty so views where limited but we did enjoy the walk up to the church).

There is a pleasant cafe on site serving the usual NT fare, we had a nice coffee before setting off on our walk.

Went on the castle tour which opens at midday, there are two sets of toilets available on site and most of the walks in the garden are gravel paths. The orchard path is on grass and would become muddy in the winter. There is a pay and display car park (free to NT members). There are marked walks available and the cafe accessible off the main car park.
