I booked a ticket in advance to the railway, because I already knew my holiday dates. I wanted to surprise myself on my Birthday, with that journey to the top and so I booked it for that day.
They have a fair size car park in the opposite side of the road, but we have to arrive early to have a good space, otherwise it can be full later on. Also, the price is not the cheapest but set for tourists... I paid a whole day, because I wanted to spend my day there.
Also, the steam railway is a bit more expensive than the diesel one. But I found other times that small diesel railways are that smelly which I hardly can stand for long, hence I chose the steam one. In the station we have to go to the ticket kiosk to get our paper ticket and numbered seat, then stand in the queue waiting for our railway in our time. To be honest I was very disappointed to have a ticket in the middle of the row, far from windows. It was probably because the lady in the kiosk saw me to be alone, and unfortunately I already experienced similar behaviour other times: people think if someone is alone, does not matter, they will don't mind where to sit/stand/park/what to receive... It is simple unfair.
Because most of the people travel with others or in family, so they could change seats during the travel time, which is long by the way, but to be alone I didn't have a chance to do it. And so I could hardly take a normal picture about the way up.
On the summit the view is breathtaking and we had a beautiful day luckily. Spend there just a limited time if we want to catch the train back. Lots of people around and no chance to be at the summit alone, even take a normal picture of it without other people being in.
There is a big waiting room with restaurant/cafe/toilets, which is always crowded.
Many people choose to walk up and down, too, or having just one way on the train and walk other way. I didn't want to do it, at first, because I didn't feel fit enough, and it is quite a long mountain walk, at second, because it takes long hours both side, which I can spend with other things to see in Llanberis.
I had luck on the way back, when some travellers chose to walk back instead of using the train, so I could choose a better seat taking pictures then.
I still had my all afternoon in this case which was perfect to see some other attractions and have a full day out in the village.
By the way getting to the village there are some roads, but I drove through Llanberis path, and to be honest, that is a must to drive through!!! Breathtaking, beautiful, amazing!
Anyway, the whole experience was excellent, except the seat I got in the train, so I advise everyone to be careful when go to their tickets, and make sure the seat has a good view to the window...
On the station there are toilets, benches, lots of food kiosk, gift shop.

Best to purchase tickets in advance and then enjoy a fab trip up Snowden. The views are amazing and the train journey is a very gentle excursion. Beware for rapid changes in the weather and we set off with bright sunshine only to arrive at the top of Snowdon with hail stones and no visibility. Back down at the station we enjoyed a hot vegan pasty and chips in the station cafe. A fab day lasting about 3 hours.

The Snowdon Mountain Railway is a fantastic way to see some of the amazing views from Mt Snowdon.
We only went one way, which in 2022 stops 3/4 of the way up.

A unique way to start a trip up Snowdon, good facilities at the bottom where you start and finish.

Be sure to book ahead as it is understandably popular.

August'22 with the weather set at being dull and wet we set off, were with some very nice people, only went part of the way, still nice experience, fantastic views and the scenery.... It didn't rain, the sun came out. Great two hours! Would recommend it, Just to see the surrounding landscape.

A very exciting experience with fantastic views all around. An easy way to get up there. Unfortunately we could only go up 3/4 of the way as big maintenance was under way on the top part. Still worth the ride.

Definitely expensive and it wasn't until we were already going that we found out we wouldn't be going to the top, nor have the time to hike to the top in order to catch our return ride (and yes they'll leave you behind and no, you cannot get on the next train even though you've already paid). So basically everyone stayed within the train boundaries when we did stop so they wouldn't miss the train! Views are nice, just not worth the price.

Nice railway with some spectacular scenery. It was a shame that we couldn't get right to the top due to maintenance, but apparently this will be available again in 2023.
The rate of climb is amazing, and the ingenuity of the design is really clever.
The carriages were absolutely packed, and there is a definite temperature difference between the bottom and the top, so bring some warm layers with you.

What a fantastic bucket list item. Having the flexibility to do a one way with hike back or both ways is great for all ages and abilities. If you can you should do the hike though, it is a one in a million view!
