It's a train station with trains that turn up or don't just like every other train station. I would recommend walking or cycling shorter distances. Ystrad to Caerphilly is easier than you think.

It’s easy to miss the turning into the station if you’re coming towards it from the Caerphilly by-pass end. It doesn’t appear to be signposted off the main road and it’s not obvious that the turn off leads to the station. The parking , although free, is very compact and bijou considering it is a relatively busy station. It’s definitely not designed for larger cars and vans and there is practically nowhere to turn if you get to the end and can’t find a space which means you have to reverse all the way back. Also, vehicles were parked on the verges and pavements which added to the problem. The station itself was what you’d expect for a valleys’ line with no obvious facilities and, although signs were directing travellers to a “ticket office, I think it was a self service machine. There are shelters on the platforms but no waiting room or cafe. However, , my train was on time and arrived in Cardiff 10 minutes earlier than scheduled which was good and the conductor was very pleasant. I would like to use this station again as the frequency of trains into Cardiff is much better than my local service but the parking has put me off slightly.

This is the stop on the line where you only have to wait 4 minutes between the northbound and southbound train.
