A couple of days later I noticed that one of the electric windows was only intermittently working and the engine management light also came on. I spoke with Martha and she led me to the warranty company. Most faults were covered by the warranty but the cost of the engine diagnostic check was not. I contacted Martha and cheekily asked if they would pay for this check and they kindly agreed
Service second to none. Would have no hesitation in recommending this husband and wife business.
Sadly I wrote the car off 10 days later.
We bought the car to relocate to France and on the drive there, one of the tire valves was faulty and we noticed a leak on the first drive which could have been very dangerous had there been a blowout on the motorway. Unfortunately this was just the first of a long string of problems we soon discovered. Within a week it was clear that the handbrake was also faulty as we noticed rolling when parked on an incline. We ran an MOT on the car – the handbrake was unsurprisingly a critical fail and it also received major fails for the front brakes and suspension. We initially tried to repair the car but when we began the work, more issues emerged due to the excessive chassis rust (seemingly due to the car being used to tow boats). The cost of the works soon came to over £3000, equal to the value of the car. Eventually the car had to be scrapped due to the mounting costs and the fact that the garage refused to do work on what they described as a "death trap".
Throughout this process, we exchanged numerous emails with Baraza Motors explaining the situation and asking for some compensation, initially for repairs and later to offset the £4200 loss incurred on the car within just 4 months. Unfortunately they were extremely difficult to deal with, ignoring and refuting what we were telling them despite sending all them all the evidence. They did eventually offer £212 which is quite frankly a disgrace given the huge financial loss we incurred, not to mention the safety risk. They kept repeating that the issues were not covered by the warranty, however it is undeniable that the car did not meet the law on used cars; it states that they should be a) fit for purpose, start and stop when needed and be reliable and b) of satisfactory quality (of course a second hand car will never be the same as a brand new car, but we wouldn't have expected to scrap it within 4 months!!). And yes, we did have a local mechanic check over it for £50 but clearly he didn't quite do his job well – though Baraza seem to think that this also absolves them of all responsibility. Unfortunately it is all too easy for dealerships to "get away" with mistakes like these and leaving a review is one of the only things we can now do. On this note, one might find it somewhat suspicious that 2 positive reviews were left shortly after telling Baraza that we were considering leaving a review ourselves...
