The tour was informal, but full of history about the vineyard and loaded with information about the vines, the grapes, the growing process, as well as the wine making process. I've been on a few vineyard tours abroad but never before were we able to walk through the vineyard whilst being taught so much by the owner; the same person who prunes every vine in the vineyard himself. His passion and enthusiasm are a delight to experience.
The three wines we tasted, a sparkling white, Still white, and a red, were all remarkably "clean" to the palate. My wife prefers sweeter whites and I prefer heavier reds, but there was no mistaking the clarity and quality of these wines that I would thoroughly enjoy on a picnic or of an evening. There's a very big difference in taste to supermarket wines that seem chemical in comparison.
We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and tasting and only wish we'd brought a blanket and a picnic to enjoy the sunshine and wine on a lazy August day. I highly recommend this tour if you have any interest in vines, grapes, or wine.
We weren't disappointed. It helped that the weather turned out to be nice, but if you have a deeper interest in wine and the growing of it, then this will enlighten you! The tour through vines was entertaining and interesting and time just flew past. Afterwards we were given four samples of their wines. It also helps that their wines are pretty good. I recommend trying their Raleigh Brut sparkling, which is excellent.
Well worth the visit and the money!
