Visited the Gate Hangs Well on a whim this afternoon, and I'm glad I did. It's dog friendly, so those who aren't a fan of four-legged friends be warned. The decor is nice, hitting a balance of rustic and modern that i love. They have a nice selection of drinks, and although the food menu isn't exactly extensive, what you receive is great quality - no surprises, just a decent version of what you asked for. The staff are friendly and there's outdoor seating for wining and dining al fresco. The Gate Hangs Well isn't overpromising anything, but it certainly delivers for that local pub experience.

It was a nice little pub for a quick tea and a pint. It's quite eclectic as it's 1/2 pub 1/2 cafe so they cater a bit for every need be it a pub lunch or a quick scone. The decor is quite eclectic as well as its country farm house with slight flares of steam punk and modern contemporary accents. Was very pleased they were serving mulled wine as a lot of pubs I've visited in the November/December time never serve it so was happily surprised.

A fabulous place to eat and meet friends for a drink. The meals are excellent, we’ve had the Sunday dinner which was amazing, the plate was full and the food hot. Meals in the week are just as good. The staff are friendly and helpful. It’s a lovely village pub :)

Fabulous pub in the beautiful Leicestershire countryside, with stunning views over the fields from the restaurant upstairs. The staff are always friendly and accommodating, it's really welcoming for all the family and the food is fantastic. The Sunday lunches are, in particular, absolutely amazing. Great range of drinks and they even do cocktails. Recommended for people age range 0-100. Often host live music evenings, world cuisine menus in the restaurant and coffee mornings on a Friday for the locals to meet up and socialise. A really wonderful pub, that is an absolute asset to Carlton village and we are very lucky to have it!

Fantastic food and lovely service. Highly recommend the hand battered fish! Well done chefs!
Maddie and Izzy were lovely waitresses, really helpful and kind. We went for my mum's birthday and they both wished her a very happy day, with a great chorus of Happy Birthday being sung from the kitchen as well! It was a great night!

We visited whilst on holiday today and it was perfect. The staff were lovely, the setting is beautiful and relaxing. The Sunday lunch I had was outstanding and the children's meals were just right, so glad we visited I wish we lived closer!

The pub looks great and has a lovely vibe inside, warm and welcoming. Sadly when we walked in, no-one was at the bar and we stood for a good 10-15 minutes waiting for someone to show us where our table was or ask for drinks. The manager eventually turned up but he was uncomfortably casual with us and didn't seem very bothered whether we were there or not. His staff were clearly confused by this manner as they needed direction for what to do next but he didn't have the energy to tell them. We were brought upstairs which was a really lovely dining area and the waiters there were perfect- polite and efficient. Food was also tasty, but portions were off by a mile! Some plates were piled on, some were just hanging onto a tiny dollop of mash, and our little 3 year old had such a huge plate of fish and chips it her mum and dad had to help to even finish a quarter of it! The manager again made things awkward when he brought drinks late (we'd already finished dinner) and then when we realise one drink was wrong, rather than take it away, he said this was cheaper anyway and walked off which was very rude and unprofessional. A mixed bag. A different manager and you'd be fine.
