This used to be a great place to eat years ago but this new (latest) ownership is to be avoided.
When I go for dinner, I don’t expect it to be on the table within 5 minutes - that should’ve be the warning to send it back. Half the chicken was pink, vegetables were lacking in flavour and quantity, and as mentioned above, the gravy was barely gravy.
The only redeeming feature was the pint of coke; although, at over £3 for it, it’s a good job it was nice!
Its a lovely garden and great for the kids and the dog.
A really nice place to be sat in the warm weather.
We dropped in for a Sunday dinner as a family of 5. I cant sugar coat it, the food was abysmal.
The beef was over cooked and tough as boots.
Nothing on the plate was seasoned at all. It was very, very bland. All the veg had been thrashed within an inch of its life and was flavorless mush.
I am sure the potatoes came into the pub in a frozen bag. They were dry and lifeless and lacking any crispness that you would expect from a roast potato.
Roasted parsnips that had not been properly roasted. They were just disgusting.
The kids dishes were just various items from the freezer plunged in a deep fat fryer. All pretty lifeless and lacking in seasoning as well. I also haven't seen bangers that cheap served in a restaurant for 20 years.
Everything just screamed that it was purchased at the cheapest price it could be bought for and it results in food that was completely devoid of flavour.
Its a shame, as the location is lovely, the garden is great. It could be a truly great venue. Its a real candidate for Gordon Ramsey's kitchen nightmares. I honestly haven't eaten a meal that bad in a pub for decades. It was like stepping back in time to the early 90s.
First time visit with family for Sunday lunch and the food was awful & bland.
All of our table agreed it was poor - from the overall experience, price paid and mainly the quality of the ingredients.
When asked about our food I advised that it wasn’t good and that none of us were enjoying our meals. My mother in law asked if the meat was cooked freshly that day and we were told it was however it just tasted like it had been pre cooked & heated up. We were offered to swap for something else but decided not to as was put off by the food we had been given. Comparable to a microwave meal but triple the cost.
Update: my in-laws went for a carvery and was very disappointed, vegetables were cold and the food was not very good. They won’t be returning as it’s also expensive for a disappointing meal. They prefer the queens head in Wellingborough.
