First two courses were OK. Although you know have to pay up front and they automatically put 10% service charge on up front .
Bizarrely they took for two two courses and two three courses even though I had asked if we could pay for dessert later as we weren't sure if we would want them and had been told that wasn't a problem.
We did end up ordering dessert and I wish we hadn't...two came reasonably quickly...however I had ordered baked Alaska which eventually turned up over 30 minutes later than the others and when it came the meringue was not even cooked , it was still at the egg White and sugar stage.
I asked for it to be taken away and the staff were polite at all times , but think the venue could benefit greatly if they had an experienced front of house to deal with issues that invariably occur .

A very welcoming pub! Extremely dog friendly and our meals were perfect. Would have gotten 5 stars if it wasn't for the 10% service charge. A tip is one thing but when your expected to pay your bill before you've even seen your meals you can't call it a tip.

Our first visit to the establishment for a Sunday lunch first impressions were not good as we were not greeted in a pleasant manner, we ordered dri ks at our table which were delivered quite quickly but waited 15 minutes for them to come take our food order which surprised me as the restaurant was not busy. Menu selection for Sunday lunch was poor, my husband ordered beef and he may as well have ordered an old boot because it was as tough as leather and considering its served pink it should have been really tender, I had steak and ale pie as the meat choice for the roast was poor and that came luke warm, I was waiting for the waitress to come ask how our meal was so I could explain but they were no where to be seen we wasnt asked at any point if we would like any more drinks either.
When we paid the bill we noticed £4.28 service charge, how many visitors to the restaurant actually are told or notice this ???
I am the 1st person to leave a tip when eating out especially when we receive excellent customer service and great food.
Our 1st visit and definitely our last.
How disappointing 😞

Had a relative came over from Holland and they were staying in Retford. Booked the White Horse at Barnby Moor as it was part of the Harper Inns group and we had always been impressed with the King William Inn at Scaftworth.

The White Horse... Wow were we disappointed..... Poor cleanliness, terrible food and inept service. Will definately not be going again, infact has put us off going to any Harper Inns pubs in the future... Sad really but i can only speak as i found.

First time visiting, staff was lovley cant fault them. However, we ordered two sunday dinners with roast beef. Brilliant presentation but the beef was riddled with fat and red upon serving. 5 people sent it back so you can understand am not being picky. Opted for the pork which was much better.
We shall not be returning or recommending. Disappointed is an understantment when the meal cost £42

It was practically rare, an i didnt have the option to specify how i like it to be cooked. Meat does have fat on it however when there is more fat than actual meat this becomes an issue. Also i was not the only customer to send it back. 3 other tables did exactly the same

Went with friends for an evening meal on Saturday they all had the pie chips and peas and I had the lasagne with garlic bread and triple cooked chips as a side. Sarah the landlady was very attentive and her staff were very helpful and the singer was also good, just a shame a few more people wasn’t in to appreciate him. After reading some bad Reviews we decided to give it a try and happy to say all was good. The food was piping hot, delicious and we would recommend it. Plus it’s dog friendly as we had our 2 labs with us who enjoyed all the attention. Good value for money costing around £25 a head including drinks.

Had dinner at The White Horse last night lovely warm bar and a friendly atmosphere.
We all ordered the Stake and Ale pie which was, wait for it fabulous ,it was full to the brim with prime stake and wonderful gravy . Then the home made chips which were perfect . Well done to the chef you are doing a great job . The one down side was the wait for drinks but unfortunately the lovely young lady who was serving was also waitressing so that was understandable in this day and age when people are trying hard to keep going . So all in all a very nice evening that l will be repeating . Ho yes forgot to say the pie was so dig and full l couldn’t eat it all so they put it in a take away carton for me 👍🏼👍🏼Thank you .

Food was really good . Freezing cold pub , service terrible no music on no atmosphere and they take 10 percent service charge to sit in a cold pub . Won’t return . This pub was always really good but not anymore .
