Always liked this pub. Friendly chatty staff. Great atmosphere and quirky surroundings. Usually eat after shopping in Exeter. Ate earlier before visiting the cathedral moon exhibition though so just watched 6 nations rugby over a couple of pints of the black stuff from Ireland. Very enjoyable pleasant afternoon.

Truth be told this was my first proper British pub I ever went to. Nevertheless I enjoyed my first stay so much I came back three days in a row. The Ship Inn is absolutely great, I'd go so far to say it is among the best bars I've been to, period. The staff is super friendly, the food is on a restaurant level of quality and taste and the beer selection should have something for everyone! The building itself is worth a visit. I hope I can come back soon.

Not been to the Ship Inn for 14 years, I remember it was good and wow the food was lovely.

Must go here more often as the food is amazing, service was friendly and prompt which is all wrapped up in a wonderful setting.

MUST VISIT!!! We've had 3 awesome nights in the Ship Inn. Karaoke night on Friday was a blast!! Wonderful atmosphere and we've been treated like family since arriving on Friday. The staff is absolutely awesome and they make great drinks. The Abbot Ale is the best I've had ANYWHERE in the U.K. Come here for a tasty meal or nightcap, you will love it!! 🙌🏾 ❤️

We dropped in on a whim (walked by looking for a drink) and what a lovely find. We’ve enjoyed it so much, we’ve stopped in for at least 1 drink every day of our holiday! I can’t speak to the food; however, the drinks are well poured, at a good price, and with an absolute gem of a staff.
We managed to stumble upon this place on karaoke night and we had a smashing time! Yes, it’s loud; yes, it’s packed; BUT I felt completely safe and miraculously the toilets stayed well maintained.
I wholly recommend this establishment if you’re in Exeter!

Nice interior and good food!
You feel the history and age of the place.
We had the favourites platter as a starter which was quite a lot. Then we shared a fish & chips and a steak and ale pie. Both were good but the portions quite large.

Urban pub with charm, attended by charming people. Exeter deserves a more lasting visit (I include two photos of the pub’s vicinity), but the bloody pandemic hindered that and others. So, although this stop was only a technical one, we were lucky to find two other restaurants (of a more “formal” kind) fully booked. The boss enjoyed her toasty chicken sandwich, and my rump skewer was not bad at all.
They have Rioja.
Coming from London area, we even loved the prices.
Congratulations to all the hospitality sector in Exeter, and to this pub in special.
