Popped into the Old Gaolhouse on their curry night. Had a chicken korma with rice, garlic nan and Poppadoms. Chicken was very good, very tender pieces of breast. Nan bread was inedible sadly, cardboard comes to mind. The meal included an alcoholic drink for under £10, pretty good value.

Went for a pint of Ghost ship ale that I saw was on tap before I got my train back home but unfortunately it ran out mid pour. So I went for the Flack Manor Hedge Hop which I have had before but this time it also must have been getting near barrel bottom as it tasted a bit fusty. Nonetheless as in a rush I drank most of it without quibble as I’m sure it would have got changed also without quibble. The bar staff were all on the ball.
My issue is that having got the last seat outdoors the local bin men ( Welsh accents ??) seemed to take over but I don’t relish sitting on chairs having had the waste disposal coveralls on your chair. I could have objected but the rate of F’s that were coming out their mouths surprised me that this was tolerated by the public and JDW. Tim Martin needs to banish this behaviour similarly to football colours as he does. A poor show from JDW and Winchester. Please have standards.

Full marks to the team who are serving , friendly ,pleasant but this has got to be one the worst spoons I've been in , the pic is outside the kitchens , really needs to be screened off , the menu seems to be limited , maybe to suit the needs of the student clientele, as with the toilets they've seen better days , which again is unlike spoons , the 2 stars are for the team members

Brilliant. Just visited for lunch on a Saturday in late November. The place is packed However the staff were very efficient and frendly the food was done well. Not flashy but one always knows what one is going to get

We came here for lunch and again later in the day for drinks before getting the train home.
I ordered a pizza from the Christmas menu and it was lovely, our groups good all came out within a reasonable time considering how busy they were. The staff were helpful and everything was delicious.

Although it was packed, the atmosphere of the place was really good with most people seeming to be in good spirits.

It was Christmas market day, around lunch time, when we opted for the local Weatherspoon to rest our feet and grab some lunch. The place was heaving but we eventually found a table... in fact there's not much to say a part that the whole experience has been pleasant, without too much wait considering. The food was good enough for the prices, the drinks cold and the toilets were looked after regularly. It will not stand as a memorable time but it was decent.

This pub is in an old historic building that used to be a gaol from about 1228. Now, a popular pub with good food, community vibe and in a good central location. We stopped here for lunch on a rainy Tuesday and enjoyed the Steak Club offerings. The sirloin was beautifully cooked, we loved that we could choose healthy options as sides (baked potato instead of fries.. or a mediterranean salad). We also enjoyed the warm drink on offer and was delighted to see the oat milk alternative is on offer. We'll come again!
