Lovely meal. Popped in here on way home after weekend away. Food was very nice, staff very friendly and atmosphere good and very family friendly. Only down side I would say is after we were given our mains no one came to ask if everything was OK. If they had of I would have asked for some brown sauce and another drink and I couldn't order one through the Greene King app as there wasn't any table numbers but managed to call someone over in the end who then fetched our waiter for the drink, went without the sauce though as had basically finished by this time. No biggy just would have been nice to have. Can't fault the food though you get what you pay for and presented very nicely too.

Visited as a group of 6 to the Moorhen on a Saturday around 6pm.

We found a nice table outside in the dining area, attempted to order food and were told that the garden had been closed for food (at around 18:10?) and that we must go inside to eat even whilst the weather was so good.

We attempted to go upstairs into the dining area to be told that the dining area was full and that we must sit in the bar area, we found a table and ordered at the bar.

I ordered the 12oz Rump Steak special, advertised on all the table toppers with a beer and a sprite, £25ish, I was offered no receipt and a queue was forming due to the sluggish nature of the service.

My food arrived (pictured) the steak was ordered medium rare and came well done. I was missing the Mac and cheese that came with the meal as they had sold out and had to highlight this to a server who didn't know what to do.

For the bar staff, kitchen and the food server not to know what comes with the meal or not to highlight it to me was cheeky. I was brought onion rings by way of apology.

Overall, the pub feels mismanaged. The bar staff didn't know the till system, bar staff stick to only their station/responsibilities and the place seemed overrun with glasses.

Oh and also, bring cutlery with the meals. It Wetherspoons and all the other chains can do it then it makes you look lazy.

Lovely helpful staff, friendly.
I usually have trouble eating out due to food allergies, this place has a great gluten free menu and the chef even adapted the meal for my dairy intolerance.
Could not praise the moorhen enough.

Our extended family had Christmas Dinner at The Moorhen Christmas afternoon. The food was lovely, hot, large portions and served quickly. Our waitress (Sue A) was friendly and helpful throughout. Thankful for their help on Christmas day!! The restaurant was beautifully decorated and we had a private room upstairs. Would recommend. Thanks all

Went after Christmas for a child's Birthday, disappointed the play room was not available as this was one of the reasons for booking.
Lovely location by the river, would imagine it will be really busy in warmer months.
The day we went the place was really quiet.
Food was pub food ,nice but nothing special. Service was good.
I would go again when warmer I think it would be nice sitting outside watching the world go by .

Unfortunately their website wasn't working/allowing bookings to go through so we turned up and got to sit in the bar instead. The greeter was a bit of a cheeky chap, didn't want to believe the site was down as "other people managed to book". He then proceeded to show me Google. I explained that's not their webpage, and then to click through to the booking to get the page not found issue. Shock horror I was finally proven correct. I don't understand why exactly he was contesting me, but I was glad to be proven right. I also dont understand what the point was I'm such a busy time but obviously it was important to him. Finally he managed to let me know they didn't have a table and we alighted to the bar side. Menus are rather mucky, but tye one lady behind the bar was an absolute automaton, she was doing 4 things at once and very quick and efficient. She is a perfect choice for the more customer facing roles. Give her a raise as she wasn't wasting time and seemed to be doing 2 people's jobs singlehandedly. Just had our food delivered to the table, lovely tasty dishes. 1 all American, 1 chicken burger with lovely onion rings and chips - not greasy at all. 1 gammon steak that melted in the mouth and a very generous superfood salad with a nice size piece if chicken. All clean tasting and freshly cooked, you wouldn't think it was a chain pub/restaurant.

What a fantastic pub this is now. I used to come here when it was the Hungry Horse which was large portions and cheap prices and although the portion sizes are not quite the same now, the quality is far superior and the decor inside is that of an upmarket restaurant. The setting is lovely and and the staff are very friendly. I had the dipping steak which I have to say on this occasion was equally as good as Miller and Carter. The choice of steak is superb and I will definitely be back to try another.
