The Stag And Hounds

We stopped coming here six months ago because the beer was rank and the staff even ranker! Since then a new manager(Emma) has taken over and has really turned the place around. The beer is back on form and some lovely new staff members have joined the team. Made me want to come back to my local again. Keep up the good work

As we arrived late(after 4pm), we couldn't get their Sunday roast, priced at £14.99(3 course Sunday meal deal) Nevertheless, the meals we ended up having (hunters chicken, sirloin steak) were so delicious, we left nothing on the plate :) I don't know where they get their breaded mushrooms(starter) from, but they are the tastiest I have ever eaten! For desserts, the treacle sponge cake was light and warm, nicely complimented with custard and the Belgian chocolate waffle was a delight for eyes but a little too hard on teeth: the ice cream hardened the waffles and made them crunchy. The cca £85 bill included one Sunday meal deal, 3 other main courses, 2 desserts, 1 bottle of white wine and 3 glasses of soft drinks.

Not bad drinks, reasonably priced but chef decided he wanted wanted to close kitchen 45 mins before kitchen closing time which was already closing earlier than usual. I appeal to the owner to chase this up with him. It’s not acceptable, I know there are severe catering staff shortages but please do not accept this, pubs are struggling as it is.

Lovely pub but they appear to be having problems lately. Maybe wise to reconsider if thinking of eating or arranging an event here. Local reports of kitchen closing frequently and functions being cancelled at the last minute. Ember Inns need to sort this place out.

Here we have a beautiful, cosy pub that has a menu nearly as large as itself, serving very tasty, perfectly cooked to order food..

Plenty of indoor & outdoor seating, couple of fireplaces and music lightly playing in the background.. dogs are also welcome & the pub also offers baby booster seats..

Customer service was a pleasure, felt very welcomed and served with a smile..

Booked a table for a celebration meal. We all got cabs there. Walked in, there was no table reserved for us, and no one in the pub was eating. Turned out there was no food being served as they hadn't had a delivery. No one had bothered to let us know, and I'd even received a confirmation email re the booking, a few hours before!! The young bar maids didn't know what was going on, and the so-called supervisor wouldn't even look at us, let alone offer some sort of apology! Ended up going somewhere else, and will never go back to the Stag and Hounds again, despite having been going there for decades. The lack of communication and the fact that they just didn't seem to care, was disgusting.

First time back here since many months ago and the experience was much better. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the fish and chips were excellent. Glad to see the place turning around!

We had to charge our car nearby and came across The Stag and Hounds. It was bitterly cold outside and we were relieved to see several open fireplaces in full use which gave off a very cosy ambience! The staff were welcoming and attentive and they helped us decide what to eat based on their recommendations.
Thank you also to Benjy .. or Ben ..He was a very charismatic and interesting chap and we enjoyed chatting.
