On the first visit heard some nice things were said so thought we'd give it a go. Greeted by a lovely polite gent with Long brown hair, all goes well the food was ok until we get the puddings the cook brought the pudding out she seemed polite until she got a complaint my pudding came out with the smallest pot of cream that's ok I poured it onto my apple crumble took a bite and found it was hardly warm like it had been in the microwave for 30 seconds. I complained to the gent at the calmy saying it's cold still and the cook thought it would be ok to argue with me about 🤔 so she took it back and came out and said there was nothing wrong with it I've checked the temperature I was able to put my finger and leave it there without it burning me but in her eyes it was hot she said it's the cream that would have made it cold 🤣 it's not ice cream it was 30ml of pouring cream at room temperature. Anyway, she brings another one out and then states can you check it's warm enough for you but don't pour the cream on as it will make it cold 🤣🤣 oh that pudding was hotter. So overall bar staff was very friendly, and cook well she needed to get out the right side of the bed.

Totally amazeballs. Pie was the star of the show. Also great beer great spicey burger. Perfectly attentive staff, wonderful decor and local scenery.

We may need to check out those gorgeous looking cabins in the near future too.

The John Thompson Inn has delightful surroundings and for those that love beef a very good carvery as well as a pub menu. The place a little out of the way but many are inviting as real country Inns. The only uninviting aspect we as a group of four encountered was what I believed to be manager/owner chap who appeared to have little patience at the bar that only I can assume is his bad manners whereby the rest of the staff were very pleasant and could not have been more helpful. Again on the only other negative would be the 'Inn is still described as the John Thomson Inn & Brewery, which it is no more and especially if you are a real ale lover, although there are a couple of real ales although personally I do not rate as Doombar as one of them. Overal I do recommend the Inn passed any rudeness of course as service and food is very good including its old world charm all in all well recommended 👌

Visited Sunday with wife and our cocker spaniel. Fantastic service and an amazing carvery. Treats galore for our dog with lots of attention given and nothing too much trouble. Highly recommend.

This is the second time I have been, I had lunch with two of my friends. A friendly welcome and great food nicely cooked, people wanted to pay separately and it was no trouble to the young man behind the bar to sort it all out for us a good time was had by us all,and they take dogs which was music to my ears.

Apologies for the delay in writing a review ...We stayed in lodge 2 for approximately 4 weeks while awaiting the completion of our house purchase. We were well looked after by Nick and James and we found several little walks that we could manage very well . The Sunday Carvery was really lovely and the food in general was excellent. The pub has a mature clientele, not just in years but in attitude in general. It isn't open late, so you are not likely to be disturbed if you are an early to bed type of person. We got to know the cleaner who offered to clean even though we opted to do that ourselves. She replenished anything we needed and there is a facility for lodge residents to wash and dry clothes.
All in all, it suited our requirements down to the ground. The lodges back onto fields and the river on a fairly quiet lane, so it was peaceful ......and Maggie the dog became a regular visitor to our lodge to chase after balls and receive doggie treats .
Thank you Nick and everyone for taking the stress out of the last few weeks of a stressful 18 months of house hunting.

Sad the brewery is no more. Annoyed with the confusing road closures ( councils fault ). The lunch time carvery is still fine and the draught Bass delicious. Spotless loos too...

Just a lovely friendly, cosy pub. Whenever I'm in the area I always try to just a pop in for a drink. If you need to get warm the fireplace is always blazing in the winter.
