It was such a shame the service we received during our stay was so shocking as the pub and rooms are beautiful. We had booked a nights stay for our friends wedding just down the road. We were advised when emailing the pub a couple of weeks before that we wouldn’t be able to get into our room, but we could use the facilities to get changed and leave our bags to be taken to our room. Which we understood. After a 3 hour journey, we arrived explained the situation and we were shown the disabled toilet to get changed. When asking to check in and leave our bags we were informed by the staff that they would get the manager to do this for us. 45 mins later, still no manager and when asking the staff they said that they had text him. We wanted a soft drink before leaving and my husband had to open the bottom of Pepsi himself as the staff couldn’t work the bottle opener, concerning! Our transport to take us to the wedding arrived and still no manager, so we had to leave our bags in the car and not check in. There were other guests, who were attending the same wedding who had to do the same thing. One of the guests called the managers out of hours telephone number at around 11am and was advised that if we called the number when we got back, he would come and let us in/check us in. Arriving back from the wedding at 1am, freezing cold, we had to call the out of hours number 14 times before we got a response. At this stage we thought we were going to be charged £150 to sleep in the car park. Then they could not find our booking, which was not what we wanted to hear at nearly 1:30am. When we finally got a key and checked in, with no apology for any inconvenience caused the room was beautiful. Disappointing experience to say the very least.

We had a very pleasant stay at the Lion in Malpas. The rooms are decorated to a very high standard and are very clean. The restaurant food is delicious and the staff are exceptional and very friendly. The attention to detail in every aspect of hosting did not go unnoticed. Thank you for a lovely stay. Highly recommended.

We had a late Sunday lunch Fter a busy service. Staff were welcoming and food was delicious, way above a standard Sunday roast - the cauliflower cheese was delicious.

Lovely food and great beers allour party offout enjoyed it. Only problem was a compulsory service charge in very small print on the menu. Loses one star for this.

Fantastic party at The Lion last night in the Brereton Suite , food superb , staff excellent and what a beautiful setting to celebrate a lovely Malpas lady's special birthday ! Well done all involved 👏

Stayed for one night, what a fantastic choice, we attended a function there had an evening meal and breakfast. The meals where lovely served by attentive staff and best of all the food was hot. As we booked out we complemented a member of staff on our stay and the training of all staff. We fully recommend The Lion to you for value and service.

Lovely afternoon/night spent here for a family meet up. Food was delicious. Rooms are very comfy. Lovely outside terraced area, I'm sure would be great on a summers eve.

Went for lunch on boxing day. Food and service excellent. Love this place and they make my wired haired dachshund very welcome too. Which is very important to me..
