My wife and I recently booked a table at the Shepherd and Dog Pub for a Saturday evening meal. I called on the same day but think the only reason we were able to get a table at such short notice was because the World Cup football was on TV. By 7.30pm the restaurant was packed. The staff are very polite and helpful and it has a good country pub feel to it. All 3 courses were served at just the right time, we never felt like we were waiting around or that we were rushed. The food was cooked to perfection and the flavour made me want to shake the chef's hand, it was honestly that tasty. I can definitely recommend the scallops for starters and fillet steak for main. We requested a pepper corn sauce which wasn't on the menu but they was able to provide for us. Two 3 course meals came to £75 with a glass of wine and a large coke but the steak was £21.95 each and there was obviously cheaper options on the menu should you wish. Desserts are generally £5 each. The only reason I haven't awarded 5 stars is because my wife said the corridor to both toilets was quite smelly (of urine). Please note this smell didn't travel through to the customer seating area and I wouldn't have known about it had my wife not mentioned it on her return from the loo. There is plenty of room to park and it backs onto a golf course so it's a lovely relaxing setting. I understand that they can cater for private functions as well and we would most definitely visit there again. We would also recommend this place for either an evening meal or as country pub for a relaxing drink. Please give it a go, I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Thanks for reading 👍😀

This is a difficult pub to review simply because it wasn't terrible nor outstanding. It is worth a visit if you're in the area.

Found it a little pricey for what we had, but not over the top. The portions were good, the staff polite and helpful.

First time in here earlier this week, and the food was amazing. The cheesecake is the BEST I have tasted ever (and I've tasted lots!), worth a visit for that alone!

Had a Sunday roast and the food was great. My wife had the lamb and me and my son had the beef. Full
Plate of food, great Yorkshire pud and good selection of vegetables.

The waitresses were excellent. Very attentive and friendly.

Complements to the chef Phil and all of the staff.

Pub has always been good. However, disappointed as the website says they close at 11pm, but tonight they had cashed up before 10:30pm, and told us they were going to close an hour before that! So either the staff were snacking off early, or the website needs to be updated. The staff also need to be trained to make sure customers are informed if closing early.

We came here based on the TripAdvisor reviews, and weren't disappointed. Lovely home cooked food, good friendly service, and reasonably priced. We'll definitely go back.
