Not a good experience last night at the Angel. The waitress knocked over my drink which soaked my shorts and the rest ran off the table onto my dogs head. I was given a reluctant apology and a roll of absorbent paper to clean it all up. I would have expected the waitress to clear the mess up! After drying my dog and standing in my pants in the toilet using the hot air blower to dry my shorts I went to the bar. This obviously spoiled my evening and I suggested to the bar staff that perhaps as a gesture of good will they should buy us a round of drinks (which would actually amounted to 2 pints of larger) and they got quite surly (the female staff not the young man who was very nice). I requested to speak to the manageress who was equally unhelpful and implied that I was lucky to get the replacement beer that they knocked over. So we left and when I got home I washed my shorts and my little dogs head. Now I will never recommend the Angel to anyone. Was this bad review and the loss of a customer not worth turning round for a couple of beers? These folk have no idea about customer care and perhaps should improve their poor attitude. The picture is my dog before he got larger on his head.

The Angel Inn is predominately a restaurant and not a walk in pub for a quick drink. The one way entrance system immediately states ' wait to be seated ' even for a quick pint. The bar area is predominately filled with tables booked for food and there is no opportunity for standing , leaning on a post or sitting at a bar stool. On two occasions recently on a Saturday afternoon we were advise there are no seats in the bar but invited to sit outside in the 'garden'. The garden being the former car park with a few benches added and a few feet away from a major 4 way roundabout so the ambiance is not good.
A few days ago we and my elderly relative decided on a meal in the restaurant. The welcome we received from the waitress was very friendly and cordial. We were disappointed in that we were seated in a very cramped corner shoulder to shoulder with two large tables of 7 and 5 . This was despite the restaurant on that evening having spare tables. I also found the taped music to be bordering on obtrusive , with the noise from the music and other customers conversation was difficult.
The menu is classic pub food I was pleased to see snacks such as baguettes and salads were available in the evening as sometimes this is only for lunchtimes. The real star of the menu was the specials boards which offers something different and altogether better . We both had starters from the specials board and I also had a main course from the specials board. My relative had scampi and fair to say it looked unappetising and with a quantity of chips no lady could possibly eat . Looking at what was being dished out at other tables clearly this is a very large portions pub which puts me off. ( what I call 'how on earth am I going to eat all that syndrome'). I would like to say the staff and attention are fantastic and the relatively small kitchen seems to have the ability to serve up very quickly . We had minimal waiting time .

Typical local pub facing a busy roundabout on the A127 between Thorpe Bay and Shoeburyness...nor really the calmest environment, especially if (weather permitting), you're sitting outside. Nothing extraordinary, not a country pub, not a gastro-pub, not a trendy pub, not a micro-pub... Just a nice local pub with its daily local customers. Sometimes difficult to get a table and very tiny counter too. Selection of food ok.

Fantastic Sunday dinner, great service, just a shame the about the chairs ! Common guys upgrade your seats and everyone will be much more comfortable, stay twice as long and sped more money !

Friendly staff and good atmosphere. Waited too long for the goats cheese starter - quite good when it turned up. But the vegetarian ratatouille offering was lackluster and tasteless. Nice roast potatoes though. Could do better!

Popped in for lunch and had a fab meal. I had the calves liver and mash. Shame it doesn't come with some veg. Thankfully my partner had the Steak and Ale pie which did come with loads of veg. A great little find and reasonably priced too.
We will definitely be back soon.

Vibrant atmosphere and pleasant country pub/restaurant near Shoeburyness in Essex. Varied and very reasonably priced menu. Food was plentiful, hot and the service and staff excellent and attentive. Nothing negative to report and highly recommended
