Great pub, relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Superb lunch of faultless pigeon breast salad, black pudding, roasted tomatoes, baby potatoes, fried bread and balsamic dressing. Perhaps the tastiest salad I've had in years. My partner relished his fish and chips. The generous piece of hake wrapped in a thin, crisp batter was cooked to perfection and accompanied by peas, chips and a zingy homemade tartar sauce. Yes, around £20 each might seem expensive, but we both agreed it was worth every penny!

Had a really nice goulash & burger on a Saturday evening. Tasted really good, but took ages from order to arrival. Dog friendly which is a plus. Tips were cash only, which is a shame because I (and most people I know) are cashless these days. Please sort it out owners

OK.. ordered 4 baked potatoes. Took payment, then told us they only had 2 left. Substituted one order chips and then insisted on charging an extra 40p via a card for the required change of order! Would have been easier to pop down to the co-op for extra pots, especially as they carried taking orders after ours! But good food and nice garden to sit in.

The Blue Boar is an adorable pub with incredible food. Not sure who the chef is, but they really know how to cook!

I got the Soup of the Day (which was a winter soup made from parsnips, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and more) and it was creamy and very tasty. It came with a freshly baked baguette that was hot and chewy inside and just slightly toasted on the outside. Loved it!

My two friends got the Cuban sandwich, which was INSANELY good. Tender pork and a generous smothering of Dijon, Swiss, and Mayo made the sandwich SO juicy and delicious. Great flavor and a hot toasted bun. We also got a side of very hot and crisp chips that we enjoyed.

The service was very friendly and fast, our food came out in ONLY 5 minutes!

Really recommend this pub. We went there not knowing what to expect (as we were visiting the town for the first time) and were very pleasantly surprised! Go to the Blue Boar!

Amazing place. My husband and I popped in for lunch on our mini moon and had the most incredible food. The fire was lit and they played some lovely relaxing jazz music. We loved it so much we came back another day for a drink and a pudding. A lady named Scarlett working there was very welcoming both days we visited.

How the owner has a business is beyond me if he treats to his customers the way we were treated. After complaining about a steak that had more fat than meat the owner/chef proceeded to shout at us telling us we were freeloader just wanting a free meal. Perhaps as one of a few pubs that serve food he feels he can treat customers in such a dreadful way.
Fortunately all of the other staff were very pleasant to us.

Pop into Hay on Wye after hiking in the mountains near by. Tried this pub for food. Open fires, real ale and great honest pub grub. Really enjoyed my visit.

This was recommended to us by a local and we weren’t disappointed. It’s got a nice blend of oldy Worldy pub vibe with more modern outside marquee area...
We arrived just before dinner but were able to order after 1730. We were greeted and helped quickly. Our drinks orders were taken at the table and delivered but we found it easier and quicker to order the rest of our requests at the bar which was fine.
The food which was slightly on the dear side came out pretty promptly and I wasn’t sure what to expect. We ordered the burgers on the menu and to be honest I was really impressed. It was one of the most tasty burgers I have had in a while and was delicious. It was worth the money.
Overall a decent pub vibe in the lovely setting of Hay on Wye.
