The Staff Of Life

Stopped after visiting Calke for Sunday lunch. Very nice and a great desert menu if you like the classics. Sticky toffee pudding was delicious. The staff were grand very welcoming and friendly, we even got some table entertainment - card tricks which the kids loved. Beautiful spot

Just got back from a fabulous lunch at the Staff of Life, the food was exceptional I had the trio of sausage which was to die for , my wife had the fish finger baguette which does it no justice at all and my son the gammon which looked just as good. Very dog friendly pub indeed. The service was second too non and all came to a reasonable price. Well done to all the staff at The Staff of Life

Ordered food, never got to eat it. Nearly an hour to make a burger and a sandwich! We only had an hour so had to leave. The barman seemed to blame me for not telling him.... of course, he could have told me his timescales - they were just slow! And his comment that 'we're not a McDonald's' was not necessary, not appropriate and spoke volumes about his attitude. Other pubs manage to 'cook to order' in a timely manner so I don't see what's so special at this pub. The place didn't even look busy.

Lovely country pub, nice surroundings. Staff were brill, food tasty and good ale. Only criticism is I couldn't get any 'hot' water for my morning shower - it was barely warm. Other than that I wouldn't hesitate to book again.

Clean and welcoming venue, friendly staff, good pub food. A really enjoyable meal, accompanied by good beer and nice wine. Definitely worth a visit.

Brilliant meal with friends. Service second to none. Very polite and truly helpful. Great prices Meals big enough to share. Only sorry it's not closer to home. Will be going back when I can.

Good food, but busy as hell on the day we visited, so everything took a long, long time... Staff were friendly. Nice, easy walk from NT Calke Abbey
