Like many people I joined to get rid of some excess 'muscle' that had built up from good-living.

To be fair I selected this gym more for the fact that after work you could find a parking space in a side-street and that it was near to my workplace. The price was also reasonable, although there were several gyms in the area with similar fees.

The men's changing room is reminiscent of school/swimming bath changing rooms - functional, a little run down, and smells 'manly'. The toilets are situated within the changing room and always seem to be broken. I cannot comment on the ladies changing rooms naturally.

The gym itself is relatively small. The equipment is pretty standard for any gym but, due to its compact size, there are not too many of any one machine. This was sometimes a problem for my wife and I as we liked to go round together. This was in part because we're married and I do as I'm told, but also because of the other clientele. You will always get inconsiderate people wherever you go and it becomes more noticeable when the place is smaller. The 'regulars' seem to just hog two pieces of equipment at a time so as to be able to do their set routine. There is no acknowledgement or apology to you for your wanting to use one of those machines for your set routine. It can be quite intimidating, especially for my wife.

The staff weren't unpleasant, they just weren't engaged in the place. Most sat watching YouTube on the company laptop, occasionally glancing up from an engrossing kitten video to grunt and nod at you.

Ultimately, I left more because I wasn't making the most of the gym. Yes, it was not inviting, but the ravages of work meant I just wasn't enthusiastic enough. That said, I wouldn't go back to this gym if I did start again. Once we had left it took several attempts to get the gym off of our backs. I had heard of issues before leaving so cancelled my direct debit once I was sure the gym had had the money they were entitled to. In fact I cancelled just after a payment was taken so they had more than they were entitled to. Letters came from a company employed by Energie threatening us with charges if we didn't pay. We wrote, emailed and called to say we had cancelled. I sent copies of the original cancellation emails to about 3 different email addresses. Finally, I lost my patience and threatened legal action, nominating a solicitor should they really want to test me. Silence.

I still get the occasional email from them telling me they miss me and asking if they can entice me back. No, just No. They can't.

I have been going to this gym for over 10 years enjoy it for the friendly members and helpful, cheerful staff. It is not the best equipped, but on the other hand it is one of the least expensive in Croydon. The atmosphere is very energetic and cheerful, and they are doing their best to help us all enjoy the experience despite the Covid restrictions - especially Ophelia who is always very helpful, welcoming and professional. It is a place where you can easily make friends.

Energie Fitness is a different gym since the refurbishment! Amazing classes, great equipment and friendly/ knowledgeable staff! Matt and Danielle are a great management team and are always around to help you with any membership query’s or if you just fancy some advice! I’ve been training with Tony now for months and have seen some great results, keep up the good work guys!

The only thing that attracted me to this gym were the heavy bags in an area of the gym called "the yard". I wouldn't have joined for any other reason as the quality and selection of free weights on offer is pretty poor, eg a bench press unit that wobbles because it doesn't lie flush on the floor.

I could live with all that because the "the yard" is pretty neat and the bags decent, unfortunately you can never use the heavy bags because there's always a class going on. The yard only becomes available at close to 9pm. Well I don't want to train that late in the evening. We all work, I finish work at 5ish then I want to go straight to the gym. 5pm - 7pm is more convenient for me. I see no reason they couldn't have a couple of days in the week -- between 5 & 8pm -- when the yard is available to members who don't want to take group classes, and have the classes later on those days. That would be fair to everyone. I guess the classes bring in more money.

Another issue I have is this gym is always cold. The worst conditions to exercise in, is cold. Obviously too penny pinching to put the heating on. My experiences at this gym are the exact reason why I've always avoided these cheap fly by night gyms. Quality and customer service is always sacrificed in the name of packin em in.

Customer service brings me onto the final and most serious issue I have with this gym. Energie Fitness continued to take direct debit payments even after I cancelled my membership. Be warned, as soon as you decide to leave this gym make sure to cancel your direct debit. I'd have left this exact same review on Energie Fitness Croydon's Facebook page however Emergies Fitness have disabled reviews on Facebook.

Overall a decent gym with a reasonably priced membership. Classes are good fun. The gym could be maintained a bit better. Recently the gym has been quite packed up until the closure. Stars removed as no effort has been made to update members as to what is going on and when the gym will reopen. We were told 1-2 weeks, it’s now coming upto 4 weeks. Disappointing!

I'm not a regular attendee there but go there for some gym sessions as part of my rehab programme.

I felt very cold when was there for first time in winter months. Hope it'll be warm in summer months.

Space wise it's good, modern equipments. Just off to East Croydon station so parking could be a nightmare but using public transport is ideal.

I can't comment about charges etc as I go as a NHS patient

Joined in March maybe had like 3 weeks access before the "temporary" closure. The staff seemed nice & approachable. Just really frustrated as it is the perfect location for my route home so I had no excuses. Main road location not a dark back alley like so many of the others in croydon.

Had to cancel my direct debit after emailing and trying to call to pause or cancel membership. No communication from the gym. And the options of other gyms are just not workable.

I hope its not permanently closed and that the staff club together and open their own independent gym. I got the vibe they were held back by the franchise.

They were right - the best things come in small packages! Energie-Croydon is a rare find. A boutique style gym where the staff are always warm and welcoming. The classes are first rate. Qualified trainers who tailor their classes to suit all abilities / fitness levels. There is no ego at this gym. As soon as you step over the threshold you're met by professionals whose sole aim is to help you to meet your goals. They have bucket loads of energy, enthusiasm and motivation. A real gem!
