St Andrew’s is fine Church in a lovely setting overlooking the Abberton Reservoir albeit a bit off the main road but a small car park exists for walking/church. A small but pretty church which is open for visitors.

Beautiful old church in one of the most picturesque settings in Essex. St. Andrew's churchyard slopes downhill towards Abberton Reservoir, providing a panoramic view of this facility. However, access to the churchyard is from a farm track off the village road, leading to a small car park, but this is still a distance from the church itself, necessitating crossing the farmyard! Needless to say, Abberton churchyard feels exceptionally secluded & tranquil. There are some very old gravestones amongst the grass, some carved with skull & crossbones...

An isolated 14th century church located in a great position overlooking Abberton Reservoir. I cycled here via Layer de la Haye and benefitted from the fine views across, what I think is, the Roman River valley. The church is about 300 yards from the waterside and in the adjacent field sheep grazed contentedly. There are a couple of benches in the churchyard and it is a super place to sit quietly and reflect. There is a small car park nearby; so people with four wheels need not feel excluded!
