Moss Motors

Having recently moved to the area I had no idea of who to choose when it came to getting our cars serviced. Speaking to a 'local' in Chalford he suggested Ian Moss - I wish I'd done a bit more research.

Both cars were serviced within a couple of weeks of each other and the service books were stamped & away we went.

About 4 weeks after the service, with less than 1000 miles added, we had moved slightly further away from Chalford so I dropped my car into a local garage to get the handbrake adjusted - it wasn't used to doing hill starts. To my shock they showed me that the rear brake callipers were binding and needed to have those along with disks, & pads replaced. Total cost £600. The garage stated that it should have been picked up on the recent service especially as the invoice stated that the rear brakes had been adjusted. I asked tem to check other service items and they gave me a verbal list of very obvious omissions (bonnet release not greased, hinges not greased, even a sensor had been disconnected as it appeared to have been damaged. I also got our second car checked and it was a similar list of un-serviced parts.

As it happened I hadn't received an invoice for the service (Moss's office staff don't seem to be any more efficient) so I put it down to a bad experience.

My overall view of Moss's motors is that if you bring in an old landrover, Imp or similar then they are more than happy to help the owner keep it on the road, but if you want a more recent car servicing then don't bother.

A very good old fashioned family company, capable of solving most issues, lots of experience and very competitive. I have used them for the past 10 years with a variety of cars.
