I was having a family emergency at the time & helping with family childcare, so I missed a call from the garage. When I next spoke to them, they said they had done the work plus an additional piece of work-replacing the coils. They then told me it would now cost £311. When I expressed my understandable outrage that they had carried out work and added a considerable cost on without my consent, the person who I was speaking to was rude and blamed it on me not answering my phone. Instead of taking responsibility and respecting my rights as a customer.
This was not the end of the issues with them. They took a look at my heater which wasn’t working, which I requested. They didn’t say it would cost anything or what the cost would be. They then added another £50 on for looking at this other issue -again without seeking my consent first.
I spoke to trading standards and they agreed that they breached 2 regulations and advised me to put it in writing which I did by email.
The garage completely dismissed what I said and seemed to lack the ability to understand the content of the email. They responded by saying they could take the coils out to reduce the bill back to the original quote. I responded by saying although I was unhappy with their conduct, undoing work already done was a waste of everyone’s time & counter productive, so I asked them to leave it as it was and that I would pay it and collect the car the next day.
When I went to collect my car, I was informed that they took the coils out ‘because I refused to pay the £311’. Which was untrue. My dispute was that work was carried out against my consent. By removing the coils without my permission was an act of pettiness.
When I showed them the email Jane the woman who spoke to me, was defensive, unprofessional and dismissive. She refused to listen and argued against it all without listening to my concerns.
I had to take the car to another (more reputable) garage to re-do the coils so I had to drive my car there which wasn’t really fit to drive. The other garage said they would have started with the coils first-not the sparks and leads.
My partner recently took a look and looked under the glove compartment to find that Vehicle Tech hadn’t even screwed the heating resister back on properly. They had only put one screw back in and left the rest of it hanging off. Please see the photos attached.
I am very understanding about people making honest mistakes but I would warn others against using this garage. They were unprofessional and unpleasant to deal with and it felt that they did things just to be spiteful which is not acceptable.
I’m amazed that the AA would recommend them.
Had my second MOT in October 2022. Lisa and crew REALLY do pull out all the stops, to help. Saucing spares from anywhere to get my old car through. NO ordinary garage, does that. 10 stars excellent service.
