Used this garage for a hopeful quick repair as my shock absorbers blew while travelling on holiday to Tenby. Rang Phil on the Tuesday and confirmed as first job on Friday morning with an agreed quote.
Friday came and I arrived at the garage at 8am as agreed to be told he couldn’t get my car on the ramps as another car was already on there stripped apart waiting for a part that would “arrive at half 8”. The part finally arrived at 10 o’clock and my car was took in at 10:30. My partner and I went for a short walk into Tenby as he told her this would be a 2 hour job for both rear end repairs. 1 hour 45 minutes later I get a phone call from Phil telling me he had received the wrong parts for my car (even though I told him my specific reg and that it had sport suspension) and that he had already stripped both sides before he found this out. He then tells me he can only get one of the required parts even though it should be replaced as a pair. This part wasn’t coming in until 1pm and the job should have been completed by 2. This deadline was met and I picked the car up at 2pm, 4 hours after the initial promised time. He then claimed that the new part was more expensive (double the price) of the original one so acted like he was doing me a favour by charging me £120 despite it being more than half of the original quote and doing only half the work, later to find out the part used was in fact the exact same price.
Phil was an outgoing and seemingly experienced person at first until problems starting appearing and not once offered an apology for our inconvenience and only to add to the frustration by quite clearly trying to gauge how much I knew about cars and acting like he did me a massive favour by only charging me £20 more than the original quote even though none of this was my fault.
To top it all off he told me he didn’t take card and had to push for a receipt/invoice so unless you’re the taxman I’d suggest staying away. A quick google of this garage and mechanics past suggests the same (although I was too desperate to think of that beforehand).
Having said this, the one side he did repair, seems to be a proper repair and haven’t had any issues from it since other than the fact he didn’t replace the dust cover so will have to do that myself.
