GAIL's Bakery Putney

Seatings are the back where they feel a bit cramped. Coffee is as good as expected from the chain but the shop seems to be missing something, a good vibe.

I popped in Friday to ask if they'd have any plain scones on Sunday (Mother's Day). The two lovely ladies behind the counter were very nice and said they would do their best to accommodate me. So Sunday morning I popped in only to find that a bag of 8 plain scones had been bagged up and put aside for me. I'm very pleased with the service provided and although I'm not a regular customer so they don't know me, they still went ahead and did this. Thank you so much Putney Gails!

I like Gail's, and I found the staff in Putney to be very friendly and welcoming, but unfortunately the coffee at this location is absolutely dreadful. I was first disappointed by it in 2020 and avoided the place for almost two years – until recently I was craving a mocha while working from home and decided to give it another go, thinking surely it must have improved in that time. It hasn't. It was like I was drinking hot water, with not even the addition of chocolate able to overpower the taste. I had to take it home and add instant coffee just to get it to taste like anything at all. When you pay nearly £4 for a coffee, you really should not be expected to add your own ingredients. I give two stars because at least they have one part of being a coffee shop down – the baked goods are still delicious.

Really really rude staff member. I walked in and she was texting on her phone and refused to look up even when I asked a question. Then went on to sell me something for the wrong price. I definitely won’t be back, how can this happen in a Gail’s? It was 1.45pm 25/10/22 if you want to check CCTV etc.

As an Aussie I take my coffee seriously and am always nervous when I see a new face behind the coffee machine. But the new barista (long dark hair) made my coffee this morning and it was perfect! Happy little vegemite!

I like coffee at Gails however after 2 years I wont be coming here anymore. I always ask for coffee to sit in and they make it into paper cups, when I ask why they either say they don’t have clean cups or they don’t make it into cups at the moment (probably so they don’t have to wash them). But every single time they charge me for coffee to sit in even though its not in cup and they know it ahead!? This happened like 3-4 times so its regular. Its not about 20 or 40p extra or how much is that, its about the attitude of staff. I was barista myself as well and if I don’t have a cup to serve in coffee I go and wash some or don’t charge customer extra for nothing.

The staff here are absolutely miserable always interrupt me when ordering and don't want to be there.

I'm glad to see the same team surviving these plague times. they have long provided a community hub and good coffee with friendly service by a good team of young baristas always up for a chat and a 'hello how are you'. This is a vital extra thing you don't get from another local coffee shops . Long may it hang in there!
