The only downside was the communication difficulties. Booking online was a nightmare, the nail tech kept asking me lots of confusing questions and the guy at the front desk said I'd paid for everything when I hadn't. Hope they fix these things as it was a bit stressful to deal with.
Update: downgraded from four to three stars as I've since had my nails done elsewhere and have noticed they were over-filed, leaving them red and dented - if you come here, be sure to tell them not to excessively file your nails like they did with mine!
“The behaviour you displayed was disgusting, and leaving that review only makes me wish I didn’t even offer you the partial refund.
As someone who suffers from mental health issues herself seeing you use disability as a way to make the salon look bad is abhorrent when you know it bares no relation at all to you wanting a refund.
No one stole anything from you. If anything you stole from us
I hope you learn not to treat small businesses in this way as we rely on deposits to keep our doors open. If we had not taken a deposit from you I wouldn’t be able to pay my nail tech for the hour and fifteen minutes you wasted because you ruined your own nails.
I’m sure you opened this email expecting an apology, well I am sorry but you are not going to get one. Not from me anyway.
May you become a nicer and kinder person.”
EDIT: the salon’s unkind (abusive?) response here is my point. After dealing with this place I felt shamed and stigmatized for having mental health issues. They offered no kindness or compassion when I am obviously struggling. If they had been kinder or offered to work with me the partial refund would have been totally adequate. I have worked in customer service for small businesses my whole life and what I like about working and supporting small local businesses is they offer that human touch but not this place. Sorry my presence was a burden to you.
Original review: I had been struggling to find a place that did good BIAB stilettos and, due to a bad manicure elsewhere had a broken nail. Came here as it was highly recommended, and had a long chat with my tech about how important my nails are to me, because I bite my nails until they bleed (have clinical anxiety/ptsd) and the only thing that really helps is the BIAB because other nails lift at the base and it’s a huge trigger for my anxiety. I was recommended hard gel for the broken nail. Unfortunately the hard gel wasn’t a good match for me, it lifted and I started biting. I am a student and had tons of work to do and sadly ended up chewing/braking all my nails before I could get another appt. Had already scheduled/paid for my next manicure, tried to cancel online but the online system was a nightmare to navigate and wouldn’t let me, so I called…no answer. Was able to at least reschedule online, but right in the middle of finals week. The morning of the appt my nails were literally bleeding. Really just wanted a refund at this point, tried to call, no answer but then they called back. Not particularly kind or understanding on the phone told me if I didn’t come in I would just lose £80. So I went in and they tried to convince me to get a manicure while my cuticles were literally bleeding and wouldn’t reschedule me. They kept talking about their 24 hour cancellation policy but my nails weren’t bleeding the day before besides the online system is a nightmare and they don’t answer the phone. Literally recommended emailing next time but believe me there is not going to be a next time. Finally they said that they couldn’t make any decisions it was up to the owner so I asked if the owner could please call me. 10 minutes after I left I got an email saying the owner had agreed to a partial refund. No phone call.
I’m not trying to say that my mental health issues are this businesses fault but as a disabled person who was just trying to take care of herself, the lack of respect and understanding that I received was unbelievable. I can’t believe they tried to convince me to endure a painful, bloody and waaaay overpriced manicure rather than work with me in any way. My therapist has a more flexible cancellation policy and it’s easier to schedule an appt with the NHS than this place. They essentially stole £35 from a poor disabled student. Shameful. Whatever. I’ve never written a review online before in my life but honestly beware this salon.
