The Wayside & Whisky Barn

The owners are super friendly. The cottage that our family stayed in beside the whiskey barn was quite the scenic, cosy environment to stay in the west lakes. The conservatory of the cottage looks onto parts of the black combe with really really easy access to the fell. I'd both recommend the place and go back there if I was visiting the West lakes or wanted access deeper into the lake district too. Truly fine spot and top class owners and staff :)

My family and I had the most enjoyable stay at the Wayside and Whisky Barn this spring. Our room was big enough to accommodate four of us and was beautifully equipped with everything we needed and even more: fresh water, packs of biscuits, teas. The room and the whole barn were spotlessly clean and Emiko’s attention to details and hospitality are second to none. The food both at breakfast and dinner was very pleasant, nicely cooked with local ingredients; the omelette at breakfast was our favourite! The whisky bar was a cherry on the top. We will come back again to stay at this wonderful place and spend more time to explore this beautiful part of the Lake District!

Excellent stay, fantastic service, great meals, wonderful selection of whisky, knowledgeable and accommodating host. This is the perfect place to stay, lovely scenery and a fabulous location. It is extremely clean and very comfortable. Everything you could possibly need is readily available, hoping to visit again soon.

My girlfriend & I stayed here for 2 nights & were made to feel extremely welcome. The staff were very accommodating throughout our stay and the service was exceptional. The food served at breakfast and dinner was lovely, it’s a very small and homely setting so you have the place pretty much to yourselves at meal times which was nice and relaxing. Location was a little out of the way to hotspots like Ambleside, but an easy enough drive if you’re looking to explore the lakes! Overall a great stay and we will certainly be back! We have just returned from our 7 day stay in the Windermere Annex with our little dog Harley, we would like to say a very big thank you to Emi and Dorren for being so friendly and helpful, nothing was to much trouble for them making our holiday perfect, the food and accommodation was 1st class.

Wonderful 4 day stay here. Beautiful location. Owner and other staff so helpful, friendly and obliging. Great food and good service. Made our 2 dogs very welcome too. Would highly recommend. 👍😊

My wife and I were fortunate enough to stumble across this superb accommodation in Whitbeck, off the beaten track and away from the crowds. What a treat it is, the Wayside is stunning, immaculately clean, and has all the charm of an authentic Lake District dwelling, but with all the comforts of a modern home.
You can hike straight out of the door and catch the beautiful sea views from the top of Black Combe or beyond. It’s just a short drive to all our favourite locations.
I would recommend booking in for dinner, the food was divine and locally sourced.
After a long blustery walk there is nothing better than returning to a welcoming place, getting toasty warm, then topping it all off with an impressive education in the world’s finest whisky’s - Emi really knows her stuff!
There is a part of us that wants to keep this place our little secret, but truly it’s just too special not to shout about.
Top marks, we will be back, maybe for the Wim Hof Retreat, that would be an adventure!

The Wayside is such a special place, we didn't want to leave! It's a part of the lakes we didn't know well, and it has so much to offer. From the B+B you can do a short walk to a stunning waterfall and in the other direction the beach! The B+B is so comfortable, cosy, calm and clean and Emi is an amazing host, the whisky tasting was a real experience- and I'm not someone who usually drinks whisky! Couldn't recommend it more highly and hope to be back soon. Thank you Emi and Dan!
