First class bed and breakfast on Hadrian's Wall. Lovely rooms, lovely breakfast and Elaine is a gem. The views over the valley from the garden are just lovely and it's an easy walk to an excellent local pub for dinner and a beer - the Samson.

We especially enjoyed how easy it was to get to Birdoswald without having to use the car.

We spent 2 nights at the Hill on the Wall in May 2017. Our room was really comfortable with every detail carefully thought of. Breakfasts were outstanding and Elaine couldn't have been more friendly - tea, cake and a roaring fire when we arrived after a long journey. A great base for visiting Hadrian,s Wall.

Hill on the Wall was a delightful surprise to our party of Hadrian's Wall walkers. It is an absolutely gorgeous space with immaculate grounds and beautiful bedrooms. We were all so grateful for the many amenities offered in the rooms, from terrycloth robes and slippers to muscle rubs to snacks and water. Other members of our party raved about the bathtubs. Breakfast and lunch the next day were delicious. We're so glad our hiking company booked us here, and would strongly recommend it to anyone else.

This B&B is excellent. The house and rooms are immaculately maintained. In the rooms there's everything you need. Even a chocolate bar as a welcome gift. Bathroom was stunning. However, when we arrived, the heating was turned off, but quickly turned on when asked. A very lush breakfast. Coffee could be served much stronger.

Stayed here recently whilst traversing Hadrian's Wall, of all the places I booked this was definitely the one that stood out; sizeable room, comfortable bed, wide range of tea and coffee available. I stayed at the front and had outstanding views, after staying in Carlisle it was a pleasure to be woken gradually by the sound of bird song.

Couldn't stay for breakfast as the weather was closing in and I had to dash out early to stay ahead of it - luckily I saw her before leaving so I could let her know and she was more than happy to load me up with stuff to take enroute. Would certainly come back here.

Lovely B&B. Very friendly staff, pristine rooms and excellent catering at breakfast. Perfect after a day on the wall.

A very unique opportunity to stay in an old Rievers house. Elaine's home is beautiful, our room was very comfortable, the bathroom is fully stocked with robes, slippers, a high powered shower and the in-room tea, coffee and cake selection was very impressive! Breakfast was delicious and overall it was a fantastic stay.

One of the most comfortable, hospitable, luxurious B&Bs I’ve ever stayed in! An absolute bargain for the price, and Gilsland is lovely. Stayed for one night while doing Hadrian’s Wall but wish I could have stayed for a week. Elaine is not stingy with the smoked salmon at breakfast either!
