I received absolutely fantastic service from The Word Bookshop and couldn’t recommend it more highly. I called to place an order, 2 days before Christmas, and not only did the owner take time helping me to choose some books as gifts, he then personally delivered them (locally) after he had closed the shop on Christmas Eve! Support this gem of a bookshop - you won’t regret it.

A poster of Freddie Mercury greets you as you enter, reminding you to pop your mask on. I hadn't thought New Cross capable of curated literature since Quality Comics moved out but here is a real-life bookshop actually run by people who understand the thrill of discovering something new. Books are one of the few exceptions to challenge time-held tastes and the best booksellers know how to entice you with the promise of something new far beyond your comfort zone.

Unquestionably the best London local independent bookshop I’ve been in. The quality of stock is even more surprising when you take into account how small it is. There were good deals when I went in too. Not sure why this isn’t on more ‘best bookshop’ lists. Highly recommended!

Nice little book shop with a good selection. Workers there were having a laugh and honestly made the place so much more welcoming.

I’m actually a whole bibliophile. I was on the bus and this shop caught my eye with the books on display. Inside there’s a whole range of books with its fresh quality! They also take second hand books. The person who serviced me was really nice & talkative defo a nice independent bookstore on the main road. 110% recommend a visit I will be making returns with the deals they have <3
