After a lovely coastal train journey from Whitehaven (recommended) we had coffee at the newly opened Hive cafe and bistro. A delightful place: lovely, welcoming staff and lovely coffee in very attractive interior. We didn't have anything to eat but people around us were clearly enjoying theirs judging by the cleared plates. It would be great to have this as our local cafe (Durham).

My daughter and I were looking for somewhere to eat and gave this a try after walking out of a nearby cafe due to lack of choice and ambiance. This place had a nice feel to it and the food options are far superior to standard cafe options. The food was fantastic. Give it a try.

Beautiful setting with great food. The service was excellent and the ambience was perfect for my birthday celebration.

We had the short Rib special with 'Pickled vegetables' was just pure uncooked fat and the Pickled vegetables were just red onions and for almost £10 it's not really value for money. Smallest portion of the cheapest bookers fries for a whopping £2.95 with a Toastie for almost £10 the bread wasn't Toasted and the cheese that was inside was cold and not melted.
Coffees were very good but also very expensive
The short Rib was sent back and replaced with soup of the day. £7.50
For a soup, toastie, tiny portion of Fries and two Coffees it came to £26.70. So not the best value for money. And disappointed after reading such positive reviews.

The decor is beautiful and the front of house lady was very, very good at her job and extremely attentive. We absolutely love the shop and have been visiting for a long time with the staff in there being so helpful and attentive.

Fantastic new restaurant and definitely worth a visit, it may only be small but everything was perfect. Great, polite and friendly staff who are very attentive, good selection of beers and wines. Very professional chef providing fantastic meals cooked to perfection, will definitely be booking again.
