Sold me an unsafe car with an engine fault. I took the car back to be fixed and they held the car for 3 days and claimed it was fixed. After driving the car for a couple of days, the car engine light was back on. At this point I had lost my patience with them because each time I drove the car back it was taking an hour up of my time and costing me fuel to get it there and back because I’m not local, so I requested a return of the vehicle due to it not being safe to drive. They accepted my return and the car. They did not issue my refundable deposit back and then started chasing me for a mileage charge of £344, when the only miles I had spent on the car, were taking it back to the dealership and the handful of short drives I had. Now I’m being threatened with my alleged debt being passed to debt collectors which includes the mileage fee I just mentioned and a negative equity charge of £373.55. So not only do Hippo sell unsafe cars, they then charge you £617 (in my case) to return it. They also don’t return your deposit for the car. They also lie to you about fixing the issue on the car and also bar their sales people to ring you and harass you to keep the unsafe car so they don’t lose commission.

I am looking at a taking hippo to small claims court in regards to the above. So if you want to experience all the stress I have been through, buy a car from hippo.

I bought a BMW 530E from here and am far from satisfied.
A little while after purchase some paint started coming away from the rear nearside bumper. I took the car to BMW for a claim on their paint warranty to be told the car had been subject to a recent repair in that area, of poor quality and would not be a warranty repair.
I contacted Hippo Prestige who confirmed the car had a smart repair on the rear bumper. At this point I thought they would offer to rectify, but no, nothing they can do but I am welcome to escalate the complaint! No doubt to achieve nothing.
Take my advice- stay clear, not a good experience!!

Before I bought the car, contact ok, continuous phone calls, e-mails.
When signing the contract, I spent 40 minutes in the waiting room, even though I had a reservation for the day and time.

After picking up the car, I wanted to receive the specifications of the car by sending an e-mail with a request, unfortunately no one has replied to this day.

I was served by Alex who during the contract pretended not to know me when I was in the waiting room

The best experience I have ever had when purchasing a car - a massive thank you to Dane for being so amazing with getting my dream car to me so quickly! He's a credit to Hippo and will definitely recommend to others wanting to purchase a new car!

Avoid this company like the plague. Customer service is great when you're buying something, then they treat you like a ginger stepchild if all doesn't go to plan.
Explained my circumstances and that I was Self-employed to the salesman Andrew before being convident enough to proceed. Andrew reassured me by stating I had been pre approved for a number of vehicles including the one I wanted by one of their many lenders. I completed all.the relevant paperwork and sent over my documents as requested and thought no more about it. After wrongly assuming everything was going to plan, i decided to chase Andrew a day later for an update as the communication had dryed up, only to get a declined notice a finance company and no explanation from the salesman or hippo. While I understand these things happen, language like "approved" and "the vehicle is already approved so that's great news" is very misleading.... Avoid....

Awful, car was extremely scratched on the day of collection so it had to go to the body shop. Within one week hit with an £800 bill for front control arms as they were totally worn out! Something that the extended warranty “wouldn’t cover” and it had apparently passed an MOT and gone though there multi point check before going on the forecourt a week before! Tyres were all cracked and they had covered it up in layers of wet tyre spray and they hadn’t even serviced it!!! All pretty dodgy. You have been warned………

Wouldn't recommend once you have agreed the sale they are not interested. Went to pick the car up they had removed the phone charger into another car which we are still waiting to get back. It was an electric car that we bought promised us 100% charge when we picked it up it had 6% there words where you probably wont have enough charge to get home so take it to the services to recharge it but we have no idea how long that will take. Definitely wont be going back would advise you look elsewhere. The manager promised he would ring us the next day re the issues and he didn't, we had to call back and he said it had now been handed to customer care team and denied he had told us he would ring.
